Scholarships: Do they Stack or Not Stack? That is the question!

I’m curious as to why Middlebury is on this list. There isn’t an MT program there, and–like many of the highly competitive northeastern liberal-arts colleges --they don’t offer merit aid. Just wondering!

@HannahMTheatre‌ I agree. My daughter got a good scholarship to DePaul, and one that would have probably been smaller had it been academic. It’s good enough to cover half of her tuition every year. However, she was admitted to the Honors College and wish that she could have had an additional scholarship for that. Oh well.

@vogelpitts I am in the exact same position! Received my acceptance to the honors program this afternoon, and feeling just a little fidgety over the fact that I won’t receive any scholarship money for that. But such is life, I suppose. (Sounds like your daughter and I are going to be seeing a lot of one another!!)

@HannahMTheatre‌ I’m not sure if she’ll participate now. haha. She’s an IB scholar this year and has worked so hard that she isn’t sure if it will be worth it without the extra money. Her program in the theater school will be rigorous enough! What are your thoughts about that? She really doesn’t want to take another language either. Being one of her peers you might have a better take on that program. We haven’t seen any info on theater students being in the honors program and how they balance it all. I’m sure that you’ll be seeing her nonetheless with such a small freshman class in the theater school. I love that about DePaul.

@vogelpitts I had to do a little digging to figure this one out, but if you go to the honors program page, then “curriculum” and “requirements” and scroll down to the bottom of the page, there’s a PDF labeled “Language Requirement”. Click it, and the second sentence claims Theatre students are exempt. :smile:

@vogelpitts‌
But I’m definitely going to give some serious thought to whether or not the honors college is a program I want to pursue. I plan on making some calls and learning how much extra effort it entails and how much it could potentially detract from my ability to take additional classes in areas that are of particular interest to me. If I can manage to get a hold of anyone from the theatre scho who has managed to balance the honors curriculum alongside the requirements of their major, I will certainly let you know!

@HannahMTheatre‌ Thank you! Let me know what you find out. My daughter has been looking but hasn’t spoken with anyone either and she’s very curious. She wants to know if it’s worth it to pursue.

I always feel like I’ll screw it up if I try and add it myself so …

Nebraska Wesleyan - Talent & Merit are stackable and guaranteed (w/ GPA) all 4 years
Rockford University - Talent & Merit are NOT stackable

When I first mentioned the word “guaranteed” in this thread, I actually meant that OCU guarantees your tuition will be the same amount for all 4 years you are there. You do not have to worry about tuition increases year to year which is nice. Some other schools may do this as well. As far as scholarships go, they are only guaranteed year to year if you meet whatever the requirements are for that scholarship so you may have to earn a certain GPA, etc… most are not hard requirements to meet.
