1) Have you spoken with the guidance counselor at your child’s school? Many of the counselors at the international schools are quite expert on matching their graduates with the right college/university back home in the US.

2) Have you checked the residence rules in the state(s) where you own property and/or the state of your last residence? It is possible that your child can claim residence in that state for attendance at public colleges/universities.

3) Have you run any of the EFC calculators? Two good ones are at [FinAid! Financial Aid, College Scholarships and Student Loans](http://www.finaid.org) and at [College Calculators - savings calculators - college costs, loans](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Calculate Your Cost – BigFuture | College Board) When you know what the colleges/universities are likely to expect you to pay (and chances are they will expect you to pay more), you will have a better idea of which are financially viable for you.

4) Take a look at the threads by momfromtexas on locating merit scholarships:

The specific scholarships mentioned may no longer exist, but the search strategies can be very helpful.

5) Even though you are US citizens, have a look at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.state.gov/) Then check out the counselors at the advising center closest to you. If no one in that office has worked with a student like your child lately, they have colleagues in other offices who have the expertise you need.

I do wish you and your child all the best. I was almost in your shoes.
