Scholarships over cost of attendance

My nephew will be a freshman at UA in the fall. He has the $25,000 Presidential and an outside scholarship that covers OOS tuition, fees, books and a monthly stipend. COA was $48,600 last year, with direct costs of $42,000. Scholarships equal approx. $56,000 + $2,700 stipend. Will he get the entire overage or will it cap out at COA?

We can’t answer that because we don’t know the details of the outside award. It may have limitations

When we asked about outside scholarships, they told us that UA applies outside scholarships first and then stacks their scholarships on top, and any extra amount goes back into the student’s account. I would confirm that, but that’s what scholarship office told us in March.
