Scholarships?

How do I know if I have been awarded a scholarship? Is it supposed to be included in the acceptance package or will PSU email me to let me know or will they send a separate postage mail telling me? Thanks!

It depends on what kind of scholarship you are talking about. They are few and far between at Penn State. The Schreyer’s scholarships are automatically offered to students accepted into the Honors College. That notification came severel months ago. If you are wondering about a scholarship offered by the Department/College within Penn State into which you will major, we have been told that USPS notification comes by June 1st if you have been awarded a scholarship. That is for the College of the Liberal Arts, by the way. The other colleges have their own schedules for scholarship notification.

I will also add that the different colleges have different requirements as far as whether you need to fill out an application in order to be considered. For consideration at the College of the Liberal Arts, for example, you had to fill out an application. For other Colleges (Science? Engineering? and others), no supplemental application was required. I believe all those scholarships have been disbursed.

If you are not awarded a Departmental Scholarship, there is no notification. My daughter was told that if you don’t get one, they just keep your application on file in case more scholarship money becomes available (kind of funny to even consider that happeniing).

Good luck.
