School/Career options - involving engineering/architecture

I need some advice!!!!

DS#1 is a junior, so we are diving into the deep end with college info/thoughts/research right now. To be fair, we are a little behind the times with all this, but we have been overseas for 7 years and college/career stuff really isn't pushed like it is here.

He is good with math and science (loves Physics, likes Chemistry, HATES Biology) and is also a talented artist, with a good eye for detail, color, design, etc. He is a good writer, enjoys history, and is a rather talented musician. He was leaning toward engineering/science (DH and I both have science degrees) but he is now talking about engineering/architecture.

Not interested in the Ivies, and I'm not sure he can get into Duke, UVA, UNC, etc. He is a strong student, but not exceptional (solid B+/A- student). If he were to get into one of those schools it would be more because of "other stuff" (like his international experience) than grades/test scores.

Can anyone help me with what programs are out there that combine these 2 areas and what career options there are?

Structural engineering seems to apply here. I think almost any significant structure requires the services of a structural engineer. Computer science might appeal to him as well, possibly in the area of graphics.

Northwestern just started to offer an architectural engineering major within their civil engineering dept. Civil and Environmental Engineering - Architectural Engineering and Design

thanks!

Okay.....Northwestern.....Chicago.....COLD! Well, I'm a true southern belle (in other words - a cold weather wimp) altho I do love Chicago, but maybe the young offspring has warmer blood!!!! It does look like a neat program.

Here's a link that might be helpful. The ASCE (Amer. Soc. of Civil Eng.) has a list of all colleges that have a civil engineering major: American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

Also, check out the engineering forum here on CC. The first thread is a listing of the US News and World Report standings for schools of engineering. Not that I would hang my hat on their sometimes screwy ratings, but it's a starting point.
