School doesn't allow self studying APs?

My sis and I both were planning to self study this year. She has some scheduling conflicts and wanted to self study Bio, while I was planning on doing APWH and APES. (there aren't any AP classes that can be taken before junior year.) I talked to my counselor and apparently our school doesn't allow self-studying APs.

Can we take the test at a different location? Has anyone's school done this, too? Advice, responses and input very much welcomed.

I know some people have success by going to another school. You may want to contact them ahead of time to see if they’d be willing.

Yeah. You may be able to study and take it at a different school. However, note that since your school doesn’t allow self studying you prob won’t get any credit at your school. Answer mine please? i answered yours. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/1203963-potentially-bad-calc-bc-teacher.html

What do you mean by not getting credit at school? Aren’t AP scores self-reported? So it really doesn’t have to go through my school, I thought. Or if an AP class is a prereq for another? Please elaborate. :)

Yeah, I’ll probably look at schools that offer more APs and take the tests there. Thanks!

^certain schools give extra credit for taking an AP. Like if you take APWH, or APEH it may increase your Humanities/History average

Yes, this happened to my son. He self-studied for the Macroecon AP in 9th grade. His (NYC) high school even accepted my check for the test fee. The day before the official deadline for test registration, the school returned the check (which they’d been holding, unwashed, for months) and said they have a policy of not permitting to take AP tests if not enrolled in the corresponding AP class at the school. (Something about not wanting to diminish the school’s AP performance.) I had a day to find another test site, which I did with the assistance of CollegeBoard. The nearest site that would admit him was in Maryland. I encourage you to self-study for the exam, if it is a subject that interests you, and I suggest that you find a welcoming test venue long before the registration deadline.

That’s “uncashed.”

just take the tests at a different testing site

Take it at another school and then send a copy of your score report to your counselor to make them angry ;)
