is the engineering school easier to get into than any other school?

I doubt it. If anything the statistic requirements are probably higher. There are only two schools at the undergraduate level: liberal arts and engineering.

Generally, it's harder to get in.

If you are very lopsided, it may be easier for you - i.e. 780 math, 620 verbal v. 700 on each, all As in math & science.

If you google Tufts admissions, you can find the stats for the admitted class of 2010. If I'm not mistaken, the 75th percentile for math SAT scores is 780.

I thought that the selectivity for the two were roughly the same...Anyway, they are both very difficult to get into, but as Aries said, they are looking for different things -- Engineering is focused on Math/Science, while Arts is looking for humanities, literature, etc. It is important to tailor your application to whichever undergraduate school you're applying to (this is in general, not just for Tufts).

I think that LA also has the luxury of accepting less traditional students, or those who will add a lot to class discussion but don't have the numbers - whereas, in engineering, you have to be able to handle the work load, the math, and the science.

Good point :) in LA, a student could still be admitted if they really excel (i.e. on a National level) on something, but didn't quite get those top SAT scores, for example.

By the way, thanks for getting back to me Aries with the message to my question - I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. It was very helpful.
