School of Humanities Admissions Rate

Does anyone know the School of Humanities admissions rate? I can only presume that it is higher than the Engineering, Architecture, and Natural Sciences; one of my friends got accepted with low statistics, but who knows... maybe she had excellent essays.

I cannot give you an exact number, but I do know that my Academic Advisor (also one of my professors from this past semester and also one of the admissions officers this year) did say that on the whole, the Humanities applicants are stronger students over-all than the Sci & Engineering applicants, and that it was actually more difficult (for at least the 2004-05 pool of applicants) to be accepted by Rice as a Humanities major than as a Science and Engineering major. I do not know if this is true every year, but it is what she told our class this spring semester.

The thing about Rice is, they look very closely at the person as a whole. In order to get into Rice, you have to have good grades and you have to have developed yourself as an interesting human being. It's not all about numbers or essays. People at Rice have characterized themselves as being passionate people. If you want to get in, that's how you have to present yourself.

Perhaps your friend has an interesting hobby or some extracurricular activities that she's passionate about, and expressed that well in her application.

I initially got the impression of Rice as an engineering/science school that is recently trying to strengthen their humanities (with good reason in my opinion). but are humanities now surpassing their sciences? clearly being more selective doesn't prove that they are better, but its undeniably common that colleges are more selective in some areas because they feel that those programs are better. anyway what im getting at is if they are better in humanities in any specific majors, what are those? I cannot seem to find any rankings for majors with Rice listed.

They're really awesome in linguistics. I know there are a lot of linguistics majors, and the LING profs are awesome, talented, and amazing people.

cool i was looking forward to learning sanskrit.
