What can anyone tell me about the music school at Furman? How many students are enrolled in music? I know the program is well-regarded. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

hi! my friend is currently a freshman at Furman. he is a double major in music performance and political science. Yes, music is one of their top programs…i would recommend looking into the school. Good luck!

My son is a junior music major and loves his experience there. Furman received a huge grant from the Duke foundation and have been very generous with scholarship monies. Furman ended up costing no more than his instate option (UNC Chapel Hill). The range of scholarship amounts vary, of course, according to playing level, major and performance involvement.

There are a lot of good musicians at Furman and the faculty are incredibly supportive. For example, by son’s teacher recently connected him with a short term job playing with the SC Philharmonic. He also was connected with a jazz performance venue that proved profitable.

Be sure to comb the music department’s website. There are links to alumni outcomes, a wonderful semester abroad in Italy with faculty (scholarship monies are applied to these expenses) and curriculum plans. I believe there are roughly 200 music majors (some are majoring in other areas as well). If it is not too far for you, I recommend a visit. You will be treated well and the faculty are very willing to spend time with you,
