School recommendations for Computer Science?

Hello everyone! I am a HS senior in Michigan, and I’ve been putting together a list of the colleges I would like to apply and am looking for some recommendations. I’ll list my stats below. I would love to major in computer science!

Currently, I am applying to University of Michigan, Wisconsin -
Madison, Georgia Tech, Purdue, and Maryland - College Park. Do you guys think I should apply anywhere else? The UCs are tempting but seem pretty expensive, and I’m not sure how comfortable I am moving into the deep south.

Stats:
GPA: 4.01W, 3.73UW

Class Rank: 39/530

SAT: 1440 (720M/720R&W)

APs Taken/Taking: (9/14 offered) Physics I, US History, Calc AB, Statistics, Calc BC, Composition, Literature, CS Principles, Chemistry

Dual Enrollment: CS classes Junior year at Eastern Michigan University (3 credits) and Senior year at UM Flint (10 credits).

Extracurriculars: Guide Dog Breeding Stock Host (raise and care for litters of future guide dogs), Piano, Cyber Patriot, NHS, Varsity Cross Country, Internship at Farm Bureau Insurance, Track Camp Volunteer, Club Baseball, Gleaners Food Bank Volunteer, Link Crew (organization dedicated to easing transition from middle to high school for freshman).

Thanks so much in advance!

All of those schools will be near reaches for CS except for UW-Madison, which will be a match. You’ve got a good profile but you need to find some safeties and more matches than you have.

You seem to be targeting state schools - is this what you’re looking for in a school or based on budget? How much can you afford per year?

What are you looking for in a school beyond strength in CS?

The UC’s give no financial aid to OOS students

How about RIT, RPI or WPI?

Price limit?

There are lots of great places to study computer science - big public universities, small liberal arts colleges and everywhere in between. As someone else mentioned I would think beyond just the fact that you want to study CS - and definitely look beyond rankings of doctoral programs - and think about what else you want in a college.

If you want a big public university Michigan is great but so is Michigan State. They have strong computer science and engineering programs, too.

If you want a big public university, unless your family is quite wealthy I don’t really see the point of going to Maryland, Purdue, Wisconsin or Georgia Tech particularly if you can get into Michigan or Michigan State.

RIT, RPI and WPI are great suggestions of technical schools where most or all of your peers will also be concentrating in STEM majors. Harvey Mudd is a small STEM-focused LAC in the Claremont Colleges.

But really, there are so many good places that you can go…so you should think about what else you want to get out of your undergrad experience besides just CS.

UMass Amherst. @Mastadon will back me up. Excellent in AI.

Don’t know your budget but with maximum merit scholarships the COA would probably be 32k. You need to apply before November 1.

~50k after merit aid if you think I would qualify.
