School Recommendations For Future Business Student?

I’m currently a high school senior going through the grueling admissions process. My future career plans involve either going into management consulting or business law. So far I have applied to 8 universities; Arizona State, Boston College, Butler, Indiana, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Michigan. Does anyone have any other recommendations on where I should look at applying? Possibly more target or reach schools? Thanks!

My Stats:
GPA: 4.219 (Weighted)
SAT: 1300
Class Rank: 13/187 (Top 7%)
IB Diploma Programme

What is your unweighted GPA? Home state? The upper end of your list is really reachy with a 1300 SAT. The average at Ross is 1450.

Congratulations on your hard work and success!

Lots of schools have good business programs. What is your general financial situation? Will you be a full pay student? Will you require significant financial aid? What’s your home state or are you an international student? Are you from Indiana or Michigan, since you have two schools from each state? University of Michigan would cost very different amounts for an in-state vs. an OOS student.

Here are a few schools I would consider target type schools. Not that anyone can say you’d be accepted or not, and different schools have different priorities.

Since you have Butler on your list, how about Creighton? It’s in Omaha, just about a ten-minute walk to downtown. Omaha’s actually a pretty dynamic business center. It’s also in the Midwest, and you have a lot of midwestern schools on your list.

Or how about Miami University (Miami of Ohio), here’s a merit aid chart too. Note they super-score for admissions and aid,

Or SMU, in Dallas, probably a more expensive choice, but you could run the Net Price Calculator (NPC), because it would be impossible to project the cost for you,

Unweighted GPA: Believe around a 3.85
Home State: Michigan (No Preference on In-State/Out-of-State)
Financial Situation: Looking for Some Financial Aid, I’m definitely going to have to take out some loans though. Hoping after aid, scholarships, and grants to pay under 30k.

Fordham might be a good addition.

Need-based aid and merit-based scholarships rarely “stack” - are you eligible for enough need-based aid to get your out-of-pocket under 30K?

It seems as if Michigan State is the one to beat in terms of quality+affordability in a business program you’re likely to get into.

There are some good financial safeties you could consider within the MSEP reciprocity program. Truman State, with additional automatic merit off the already-low MESP price, would only cost around $21K/year.

UNebraska-Lincoln has an excellent Honors College and a strong business program. (There’s also a highly competitive Business Honors Academy, but the deadline to apply for that was Nov 2 - you could apply to enter the cohort as a sophomore, though, if you went there and had a strong freshman year.) Out-of-pocket would probably be around $26K

If your EFC is actually at or under $30K/year, then there may be some more private U’s with good need-based aid to consider, like Syracuse, for example. Your stats are good for general admission there but not a slam-dunk for the business school which is more competitive. They meet 96% of documented need on average so that could be a good target if you run the NPC and can afford the out-of-pocket it shows. U of Miami could be another possibility, also meeting 96% of need - the average stats there are a little higher than Syracuse but the additional competitiveness of the business programs might not be as steep - I have no data on that.

I have been accepted to ASU, Butler, IU, and MSU so far.

Congratulations! Great list of schools! I agree that MSU would be a lot of bang for the buck.

@xEliTeBlaDeZ You’re accepted to IU-Kelley? Or just to IU in general thus far? (I’m not familiar with whether it’s decided all at once or in stages…) That’s a great business school… but OOS “rack rate” is nearly $50K - do you have a merit award or something to bring the cost down? MSU is your ace in the hole IMHO - if you’re already in there, that sets the bar for what else is worth applying to. Congrats on the great offers you already have!

I am currently in the process of submitting my petition for direct-admit into Kelley.

What is your financial situation? Home state? Are you a senior?

Yes, I’m a senior from Michigan. Financial situation is I’m hoping for some form of aid, grants, or scholarships. But, I’m aware that I am going to have to take out loans.

USC school of business, University of Michigan in your home state, Emory

Ross is the obvious choice in your state, but UMich is difficult enough to get into for a general applicant. For Ross, the average SAT score is over 1400. Kelley at IU is also a tough admit, but you could take a shot. However, that’s OOS, and it sounds like you are aiming for decent FA.

Why not stay in MI? You’ve got MSU (Eli Broad), which sounds like it could be a strong match. From there, there’s WMU, WSU, and others (CMU, UMich-Dearborn). If OOS is an option, others could weigh in.

I am leaning towards wanting to go out of state so any options I would be interested in.
