So I thought it would be cool to compare overall school schedules- not like classes or anything, more like how long your breaks are, what time school starts and ends, etc. Here it goes.
My school:
start time: 8:00 AM
end time: 2:30 PM
start date: end of August
end date: first week of June
type of schedule: block schedule w/ homeroom for about 30 min each day, a 15 min break, and 1 study hall per week
winter break: 2 weeks
spring break: 2 weeks
additional info: we get a lot of random days off and consistently have at least two half days a month. Also my state is extremely incompetent when it comes to snow, so, on average, I usually have 3-4 snow days and 6+ delays.
Start time: 7:45
End time: 2:00
Start date: Usually first week of September
End date: Early June
Type of Schedule: We have a traditional schedule where we have the same classes each day just in a different order. Each period is usually 45 mins but some subjects could be an hour long. It all depends.
Winter Break: Depends on when Christmas is. Typically, it is two weeks though.
Spring Break: 1 week.
We get a lot of days off as well and I also live where snow is a huge issue!
My school:
start time: 8:00 AM
end time: 2:30 PM
start date: beginning of september
end date: second week of June
type of scheule: all classes every day 55 minutes, 5 minutes passing period 40 minutes lunch. “Seminar” Tuesday and study hall Wednesday and late start thursday
Winter break: 2 weeks
Spring break: 1 week
additional info: my school district like never does snow days even tho all the other districts around us close.
I have zero hour which starts at 7.
Start time: 7:15
End time: 1:50
Start date: September 1
End date: Near the end of June (usually in the 20s)
Typical schedule: A full year block schedule. Rotating lunch dependent on class taken fifth period. 5 minute passing period. Seven total periods. Classes range from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 50 minutes (depends on day)
Winter break: 2 weeks
Spring break: 1 week
Also, there is February break.
No random days off. Religious holidays and national holidays. Only three professional days each year. Few delays, although being in New England, the weather conditions have to be terrible for the day to be off.
They are thinking of doing a flexible block at the beginning of the day.
Homeroom is 10 minutes long. Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a 5 minute extra snack break.
Start time: 7:30
End time: 2:30
Start Date: Aug 10
End Date: End of May
Schedule: Block sceduling. 4, 1.5 hour classes a day. 6-ish minute passing periods
Winter break- 1-2 weeks
Spring break-1 week
Fall break- 1 week
Additional- Several snow days/delays and usually a closing/delay/early dismisal for a tornado in the spring
Warning Bell: 7:09
Start time: 7:15
End time: 1:45
Start Date: Right after Labor Day, Sept. 2 this upcoming year
End Date: Always the Day before Graduation. Graduation 2016: June 20
Schedule: Rotating Block. 3 One hour morning blocks (6 minute passing time) Followed by a one hour block for homeroom and lunch (27 minutes each w/ 6 min passing time) Followed by 2-one hour blocks. We have 7 periods, but only see 5 everyday (double periods meet almost everyday), whatever classes are “dropped” the previous day is “picked up” the next day.
Fall Break: (Late October/Early November, A teachers convention) Ranges from 2-3 Days
Winter Break: 1-2 weeks
Spring Break: Depends on the snow days used (Gotta love Eastern states) But usually one week (Fri-Fri) or slightly less than that (Fri-Thurs)
Additional: 183 Days Scheduled. 3 are snow days.
Start time: 6:48am
End time: 2:44pm
Start Date: August 11
End Date: June 2
Schedule: 7 Periods, 59 minutes each, 6 min passing period/9 minute brunch and 36 minute lunch
Winter Break - 2 Weeks
Spring Break - 1 Week
Fall Break - 2 days (Thanksgiving)
Additional: We get one week off in February - it’s called ‘‘Ski Week’’ despite the fact that I live in the middle of Central California where it hasn’t snowed in more than 3 decades. We also get random days off during the school year such as Halloween or the day before Hallowen (depending on whether Halloween falls on a school day).
My school:
start time: 9:00 AM
end time: 3:00 PM
start date: beginning of August
end date: First week of June
type of scheule: all classes every day 45 minutes, 5 minutes passing period 40 minutes lunch.
Winter break: 2 weeks
Spring break: 1 week
I also have Thanksgiving break, of course haha
@ambers58 @TheSlacker16 Your schedules seem awesome! I really wished my school started earlier in the day so I could get out earlier, especially since my carpool gets to school around 7:10 anyway!
Also kinda random but @TheSlacker16 I’m guessing you’re into slacklining?
@iamnotironman I hate waking up so early and it really gets to me when I have a test first period. Getting out earlier is a bonus, but i just end up spending like an hour doing nothing soooooo
@iamnotironman Lol, Nope. Seems cool though, would like to try.
You get used to waking up early, but after summer break its like a slap to the face.
yeah I have to get up at 5:45 anyway because my carpool gets to school early and it takes about 30 min to get to my school. Also I don’t mind waking up early.
haha sorry @TheSlacker16 your profile picture and name looked like it so I got really excited haha
Well for me next year:
School starts at 7:00 A.M with a 0 period
School starts at 8:00 A.M if you do not have a 0 period
School ends at 2:45 P.M for everyone who has a 6th period
Start date: Early September
End date: Mid-June
Schedule: All classes everyday for 55 mins with 5 minute passing, one 10-minute break between 2nd and 3rd period, and a 30 minute lunch.
Winter Break: 2 weeks
Spring Break: 1 week
Start time: Classes officially start at 8:20, I think. Teachers start teaching a little earlier though.
End time: School day ends at 3:15
Start Date: Next year it starts on August 18
End Date: Early June
Type of schedule: 10 Day rotating schedule, the days are labelled A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, B1, B2, B3, B4, and B5. Each schedule has 4 classes that are 80 minutes long. 35 or 40 minutes are reserved at the end of each day for assemblies that are really boring. 5 minutes passing between classes, and a ten/fifteen minute break between the first and second classes. Lunch is, if I remember right, 30/40 minutes long (an increase from previous years!). A and B days alternate. (A1 then B1 then A2 then B2, etc)
Winter break: 2 weeks
Spring Break: 2 weeks
Additional notes: We have a Thanksgiving break (5 day weekend) and a fall break (5 day weekend). Snow days and delays are not typical, even though I live in an area when snow regularly comes every winter and causes delays and closings in other schools. After school activities usually go until 5 or 6 o’clock, sometimes longer.
I’'m jealous of a lot of the end times or class lengths you guys have.
