So… What is the general campus vibe like? Are students friendly and approachable? Is it cliquey and superficial? All thoughts appreciated!

In my opinion? The campus vibe summed up is: work hard, play harder.

People at AU are driven. They take full course loads, take jobs and internships, and are actively involved on campus – all while having the traditional college experience of late nights out. They are informed and passionate about what they are studying, and would much rather debate you on your point of view that dismiss it immediately. It isn’t cliquey at all, but many students in their first semester find it difficult to find their niche. They all find friends, but finding that close group of friends that you had in high school can require some trial and error of getting involved with different things around campus.

I agree with your comment, AUTransfer.

I’ve found a lot of people to be pretty stand-off-ish here. If you approach them, they’ll generally be nice and start talking to you, but for the most part, you have to make the effort. If you don’t know how to do something, and you ask someone, they’ll gladly direct you or help you out, though.

I wouldn’t say it’s clicky here at all; I have all different types of friends and everyone seems accepting of everyone else.

Also, the Professors I’ve had are really passionate about their jobs. I think that adds to the feel of campus; you can meet up with a Prof anywhere or talk to them while they’re walking to class/their office.

Just some extra thoughts… hope that helps.

It helps to find a niche, whether it’s with kids from your floor or UC, or Greek life, or an extracurricular or sport.
