HI guys! I was wondering what are some good schools that accept people with a 26 ACT. I am retaking it in September but just incase I would like to pick out a few schools. When I graduate HS I will have my HS diploma, Associates in general studies (local community college), and my LPN. I want to go to a school with Pre-med and or Nursing to get my BSN. Any suggestions?
What is your home state? What can your family afford? What grade are you in?
FL is my home state but the kids in my school get tons of money in scholarships so out of state is an option. I’m going into my senior year. @erin’s dad
What do your grades and course rigor look like? How are you ECs?
It’s not clear why you are looking Oos. Do you need a scholarship? If your grades are good, you could get a full ride to Prairie View A & M, an hbcu in TX.
Syracuse University, New York
The only way kids in your school get tons of money is through Bright Futures which cannot be used OOS. Your ACT score will be on the low side for merit scholarships. The question is can your parents pay full freight OOS (that can be up to $70K) and if not what is your max? That way people can recommend some merit aid options or low cost options. Do make sure you apply to some in-state schools so you can use your Bright Futures $.
There are plenty of schools in FL where a 26 is average FSU, UCF, etc.
@Erin’sdad there was a kid that got $160000 in scholarships and didn’t qualify for bright futures. I take dual enrollment full time (these are college classes weighted as AP classes each semester). Last time I checked my GPA after winter break it was 3.66 unweighted (will be raised) and weighted its 4.85? might be off in the hundredths section by a few. I’m number 4 out of 150 in my class last time I checked. I am Secretary of NHS and this will be my second year in it. I have been in creators club for 4 years this year. I will have close to 400 community service hours at local nonprofits by the time I graduate. I tutor kids for free occasionally in Algebra 2. 2 yrs of high honor roll and 1 year of honor roll. Ive had a part time job for about a year and a half and more.
I would prefer a scholarship if I go oos but my florida college is paid for because I have a prepaid plan @nw2this
So what can your family afford to pay? If you haven’t asked your parents yet, do that.
Which Florida schools have your program?
Russell Sage College
Simmons College
College of New Rochelle
Manhattanville College
Wagner College
If you are interested in Texas and don’t mind a smaller/regional/directional school, you should absolutely check out the UT branch schools…they have some fantastic nursing schools that are highly regarded. UT Arlington; UT San Antonio, UT Tyler. I believe a 26 ACT might get you some merit but I don’t know exact numbers.
If you are highly motivated and diligent, you can get that ACT up to at least a 30. Message me if you want to know how my daughter prepped.

Thank you everyone! I will definitely look into the schools! My family is middle class and makes $80000 or less a year.
@kaitefoxfire Iowa State University does not have a nursing program, but they do have premed and health sciences:

They have a standard formula that is used for admission:

They have affordable tuition for out of state students and you could qualify for an automatic $6500/yr scholarship with a 26 on your ACT:

Your parents did an excellent “thing” when they set up the Florida Prepaid Plan for you, which would cover your tuition cost for all four years and depending on your plan, at least two years of Room & Board. With Dual Enrollment (DE), you have the ability to take ALL the BSN prerequisites for the Florida Public Universities (FAU, FIU, UCF, USF, FSU, FAMU, etc.) while still a high school student. I see no reason why you should look outside of Florida given your Florida Prepaid and AA credits.
At the end of your senior year, would you have taken all the BSN prerequisites? The typical BSN prerequisites are:
If you have or plan to take all the nursing prerequisites by the end of senior year, you could transitioned directly into a BSN program, completing your BSN in two years (UF requires that DE students spend at least a year on campus before applying to their BSN program). FAU is the only Florida 4-year public institution with a direct admit into their BSN program (from high school).
@Jamrock411 I can complete all the requirements! I just need to take microbio, A&P 2, and chem and I’ll have everything but the TEAS V. I haven’t scheduled my classes for senior year so I can try to do that. I’ve been hoping to move out of state because the rest of my family lives up north and I want to be closer to them but I have been considering FL schools more and more.
Doesn’t usf have one of the best nursing programs?
