Schools for the Physically Disabled

Hi! My sister is beginning the college search and she is severely disabled with cerebral palsy, meaning she would need a full time aide to be successful in a college environment. She also has learning disabilities. Other then that, she is mentally all there and is very smart! Can anyone recommend any good colleges for her? I hear great thing about the Edinboro University of PA. Thanks!

Edinboro is one of five schools in the country that allows physically disabled students to live on campus. The other four are:

-UC Berkeley
-University of Houston
-University of Illinois - Urbana - Champaign
-Wright State University

Be aware that all of the colleges listed are public Us meaning there is little chance of getting need based aid if you’re on out of state student. I know Wright State does offer some merit but it may not balance out the OOS premium. Run the Net Price Calculators for each to see if your family can afford them.

You haven’t mentioned whether she uses a wheelchair, but this one is another list to start with - hope the link works out…

Edinboro University currently charges new out of state students only 5% more in tuition than instate students. This is a pilot program available for students entering as freshmen in 2014 through 2016. Continued availability of significantly reduced out of state tuition most likely depends on the success (or lack thereof) of the pilot program.
