I’ve probably suggested Clark as a school to look at to 8 or 9 kids over the past five years. Not one could get past the location (which I agree is not really that bad). Any of these students would have thrived there. Well, I’m not giving up. I’ve suggested Clark as an option to my younger daughter (HS class of 2012) and she has put it on her list. Next up in the Spring…the visit.

I don’t know if Goucher would fit your definition of “Northeast,” but it would be a comfortable match or even a safety for your daughter, and she would be a strong candidate for merit $. Our son is a freshman there and got good merit (higher scores, but lower GPA). He is very happy so far. I think it’s comparable to Clark in “vibe” and student body, but the setting is a bit more suburban. (Our son didn’t have an issue with Clark’s neighborhood–he grew up in a neighborhood more or less like that–but he just wasn’t crazy about Worcester in general. I think it’s a Boston kid thing.)

Saint Michael’s College just outside Burlington, VT. My raised, but not practicing Catholic daughter is loving it there.

Forgot to address merit money…she would probably get more than $15,000 and invited to the Honors Program.

Sorry, but I can’t image she would get merit aid at Mt. Holyoke. D was accepted two years ago with better stats (and an athletic hook), and geographic diversity, and they did not offer one penny of merit aid. So she went elsewhere.

Not in New England, but not far from major cities/Amtrack are Muhlenberg, St. Josephs, Fordham, American–and I will second/third Goucher

Thanks to you all! We went over all of our information again, and she decided that the College of NJ was her favorite afterall. She ended up going ED. Fingers crossed now!
