My kid wants to pursue Jazz Studies in Clarinet. I’m having a hard time finding schools that offer this since almost no school seems to list Clarinet as a Jazz instrument (searching always brings up clarinets under classical).
Can anyone suggest schools for Jazz Clarinet? So far we only have Berklee on our list…
Manhattan School of Music

I often see clarinet as a secondary instrument for the saxophone players. Sorry I have no offerings better than that. Best regards.
I would double check if jazz clarinet is offered on its own. You see in the MSM picture in Compojazzmom’s link that the sax players have clarinets and usually flutes at the ready. I am having trouble (I have troubles sometimes) imagining a dedicate clarinet spot when a saxophonist could pull out his clarinet for some songs.
Just came across a blog post about woodwind doubling and woodwind jazz. Maybe it can give some insights?

Berklee I believe!
Thanks for the suggestions. My kid also doubles on Baritone Saxophone but wants to primarily study on Clarinet. The issue is finding a faculty-expert willing to instruct on clarinet. I’ve started calling all the schools. Will post updates. So far we have 2: Berkelee and New School.
Any forward motion on this?
Update: Eventually found a few schools supporting Jazz Clarinet studies: Berklee, NEC, New School, USC and Central Washington U.
Applied to Berklee and NEC. Took a private lesson with profs at Berklee and NEC. Berklee prof was so impressed he attached a letter of recommendation to D’s app. Accepted to both. Now to make the decision …
Hi - I came across this thread and thought I could offer some insight. I graduated from Indiana University a couple years ago with a degree in jazz saxophone. While there, I realized that I wanted to pursue jazz clarinet seriously, and was not sure where to go and who to study with. There are very few schools that offer specific lessons in jazz clarinet, and even fewer teachers that can truly teach it. I continued to study saxophone, but started searching out specific jazz clarinet teachers around the country and world, and started to get lessons with them via travel or Skype. The teachers I have had have made all the difference in my formation and musical outlook, especially in such a specific field as jazz clarinet. I am now living in Brooklyn New York as a working jazz saxophonist and clarinetist, and continuing to practice and study on my own with specific teachers. I also teach lessons in person and over Skype, and I have experience in delivering thorough, detailed lessons covering many subjects - These are great for students who are eager to learn but may not be able to take weekly jazz clarinet lessons with a great teacher. Please feel free to look me up and reach out if you have any questions or comments. I have a website that is fairly easy to find if searching for NYC Jazz Clarinet and Indiana University.
