Reread the last paragraph of my post #17, Bluebayou. The phrase "if the scores are good" was intended as a qualifier. Also go read Drusba's post #12, it has the answer to your second question. Our experience last year was that the vast majority of colleges waived the SAT II's if there was an ACT + Writing.

Unfortunately, the UC system was not among them, but I told my d. that for Calif. she just needed to take the tests, she didn't need to do well as her GPA was high enough to offset a lower score under their formula. So she actually took the SAT II - US History without having taken the underlying course and without any study or prep. Not something she could have risked if there had been any intention to report the scores elsewhere.

ACT score choice is very nice, too - my d took the ACT twice and ended up submitting both scores because she did significantly better on some of the subtests of the ACT with the lower composite. The colleges she was applying to indicated that they DO look at the subscores.

nope, Drusba's post #12 does not address your earlier point.
To wit: "most colleges that HAD required SAT II's of all applicants in the past indicated that they would accept ACT+writing in lieu of both the SAT & SAT II requirements." [caps mine].

Besides UVA, which colleges that HAD previously required SAT II's no longer do as a result of the change to new SAT?

Prior to 2005, there was no such thing as an ACT Writing exam, so therefore it could not possibly have been accepted as a substitute for SAT + SAT II's.

Pomona (and others?) on that list had accepted the ACT in lieu of subject tests BEFORE the changeover to the new SAT -- Pomona has been subject test optional for years. Thus, I'm trying to understand your point that "MOST" colleges that HAD required subject tests no longer do so, which you infer to be related to the new SAT.

So, which of the "MOST colleges" have switched to Subject Test optional in the last year or two counselor? It could be valuable information for this years Juniors and Sophomores.

What does it matter what they did in the past. I know for a fact that some of the colleges on that list did require the SAT II's but changed, namely colleges my kid was interested in applying to, which didn't happen to include Pomona.

I can't for the life of me understand why any high school sophomore or junior would give a rat's ass about the history of each colleges evolution toward their present policy.

And that was a message from our new sponsor rat'sass.com , for all your rat's ass needs. Now back to our regularly scheduled miscommunication. ;)
