It was my mistake....maybe i offended some people with that analogy, i dont know. I just wanted an opinion that would benefit me, and not one like Indiana.

That said: can i get an analysis of my new 15 school list?

Because Northwestern would be the same as convincing me to go to Indiana University. It wont happen. I dont want to go that far away. I want to be in driving distance of NYC. But in nice words, i would say that if the travel obstacle did not exist i would apply to University of Chicago DEFINATELY, Northwestern, and Washington U in StL ...I got WashU's app already, but im not applying there.. So you see, i dont have an animosity or regional prejudice, its just travel preference.

That's fair. What aspects of Cornell do you like? It's an unusual school, and attracts an unusual mix of students. To know what aspects of it you like would really help us.

Yes, Cornell is unusually GREAT...why...because its an Ivy League like no other. Its a school with such diversity, such openness and acceptance of a wide range of people, its sheer size, its location, its motto, its goal, and its strength in so many academic areas that span from agriculture, architecture, engineering, law, and medicine. Its a wonderful institution. It belongs on a higher pedistil above all those other elitist ivy's like HPY, because those used to discriminate against all except white males (even though i am a white male, i still feel that cornell's acceptance of all people since 1865 in a time when blacks and women could barely go to college gives me high respect for it). I personally hate HPY because they indeed are overrated and think so highly of themselves that they reject so many that are such good candidates on the basis of pure numbers. Cornell is a wonderful institution that deserves much more prestige than the US News Rankings give it (consistently the lowest Ivy). I honestly feel with great passion that it is the ideal institution of learning.

To summarize: I love its diversity, i love its size, i love its academic prestige, its academic vigor, its large academic variety, its scenic location, its holistic strategy of admission, etc etc. I can go on and on. As you see, I love the school, and I want nothing less or more than Cornell University :)

Hopefully your enthusiasm will translate to their acceptance of your application. My best friend went there, had a great time and got a great education.

I like your reasons. Based on what you have said, if you can stand the small size, Bard really might work; it, too, is highly underrated. It is commited to social progress and tends to attract extremists of all kinds, left-wing, right-wing, whatever. It provides major financial aid to public school students, in-staters, and scientists, as well as to their new Conservatory students. It's also near NYC and is extremely strong in the humanities and arts.

It seems to me that you might find yourself frustrated at a place like Colgate. You'd find little real diversity, and a seriously inflated reputation. Brown looks like a good match. BU fits with the size and diversity of programs, but though it is ethnically and geographically diverse, it is economically... well, not diverse. I'm going there next year for music performance, so I suppose I should be touting its virtues, which are many, but really, if they hadn't given me so much money, I wouldn't have gone there.

nah...i never thought about bard, nor do i really want a small school at all. Thats why I already have an inclination to further cut down my 15-school list by removing Colgate and Vassar.

You seem to already know what you want. Your not even looking at other opinions. So why did you even have to ask, for schools similar to Cornell?

I asked based on my list. What schools on my list are most similar to Cornell---to help me narrow down. And yes, i do know exactly what i want, but i just need you guys to help me narrow down.

LOL....NYU...i see a lot since i live in NYC.....GWU is in DC and i just feel like going to DC....ive been there before....and BU...ive been to Boston...i like it...ive never seen BU itself but its on my list and it will definately stay there, unless i decide much later this summer or early fall that i dont want it anymore. But GWU was on my list, but i removed it, and NYU/BU are staying.

My potential next victims are: Colgate and Vassar
