Schools similar to DePauw (IN)

Does anyone have suggestions for schools in IN, IL, Eastern IA or Easter MO that might be similar to DePauw? One of my children is a B student, 24 on ACT and will enter in the Fall of 2013 as an Undecided. We are considering community college for a year - but am also searching for schools that may be similar to DePauw where she could get accepted. She really liked the feel of DePauw, but not sure she would be accepted or qualify for any type of merit based financial aid. Thanks for any suggestions.

By similar, do you mean generally conservative with a Greek system? Some to consider, although I have no clue if any of these have Greeks…

Central College (IA)
Coe College (IA)
Loras College (IA)
Lake Forest (IL)

Not necessarily Greek. Some things that appealed to my daughter was the pretty and well-maintained campus, engaged professors, friendly students and within a couple of hours from Central IL. I know that can fit many schools - so trying to find some other options.
She’s a good student and falls within the ‘normal’ range. I may be short changing her. Once she gets some passion in her about a field of study that may help.

Other schools we’re looking at for her are:

IL State University
Loyola - Chicago (which she learned she doesn’t want that type of city campus setting).
Southern IL University - Edwardsville
McKendree (anyone know anything about that? I have one friend who’s daughter is very happy there)
St. Amborse (Davenport, IA)
I’ve suggested Augustana a few times - but for whatever reason - she claims she’s not interested.

Just wondering if there is someplace else we are missing. Since she likely won’t qualify for merit aid, and financial aid will be required, we are watching costs. She has a twin also entering college Fall of 2013 - who is much further along in her decision-making process.
Thanks for any additional ideas.

I live in Iowa…

Central College sounds like it might work. Well maintained campus and inexpensive. She might even qualify for some merit. They have automatic scholarships listed on their website and a net price calculator.

My FIL taught at SIU-E. OK school but mostly commuters and pretty big.

I can’t recommend St Ambrose at all. Central, Augustana, Lake Forest are all much better options.

You might also look at Truman State in MO. She might be on the low side for grades/scores but has a good chance to be admitted. Great school and really nice campus. Cheap for OOS students. We visited twice and loved it . Run their net price calculator to see ow much it might be.

Haystack - Thanks so much for the excellent suggestions.
I have heard of Truman State and had forgotten about that one. I’m glad to hear the good recommendation and we will look into further.
Will also look further at Lake Forrest and Central.
Glad to hear your comments about St. Ambrose.
SIU-E - that is my concern too - commuter-type school. I’ve heard so many good things about it regarding recent construction and upgrades, I was wondering if there were more students who live on campus.

What about Illinois Wesleyan University? It’s a small liberal arts school extremely close to Illinois State (they often bring in professors from ISU to teach classes at a student’s request). It’s listed in the Princeton Review’s book of best colleges
