Schools similar to these

Will be applying definitely to:

Brown
Wesleyan

among many others, but those two in particular b/c they seem to combine care-free college life with great academics. I really like the idea that Wes is like one big family and is kinda like a camp, and Brown is very tight-knit and liberal as well. Any other good recommendations?

definitely vassar and connecticut college

Vassar and Pomona!

Trinity, CT

thanks for the suggestions I will definitely check those schools out.

oberlin college

i'd second oberlin and vassar. i didn't get into brown or wesleyan, but i did get into oberlin (probably a bit easier than the first 2 to get into, but it's still selective). i ended up not applying to vassar though. these schools all have a lot of similarities but some differences too.

oh and i meant to add that when deciding between the schools definitely look at the differences

Bates, Skidmore too.

thx gellino haven't looked at those....bump

Colby College, Yale University

I'm looking at those two also. In general, schools with a strong liberal mindset and quirky, individualistic student body:

Reed, Swarthmore, Yale, Brown, Wesleyan, St. John's, Columbia, NYU, Vassar, U of Chicago, Carleton, Macalester, Haverford.

That's awesome, dwincho, I'm applying to most of those schools as well.

I don't get the impression that Colby and Trinity are like these other 'liberal mindset' schools. They're more in the mold of Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Colgate, Middlebury, Bucknell type of schools.

gelllino is correct.

I would say ConnColl is also probably more similar to Middlebury, Colby or Bowdoin than to Wesleyan. I've had sisters go to Wesleyan, Connecticut, and Middlebury, and I've thus spent extensive on the three campuses. The student bodies at Midd and Conn were very similar. Wesleyan was far less preppy. "Quirky, Individualistic Students" populated all three campuses in relatively large numbers, but they composed of a larger portion of the population at Wesleyan.

But that doesn't mean most Wesleyan students wouldn't be happy at Conn or Midd. In the end, all three schools are small, academically rigorous, close-nit, liberal, northeastern liberal arts colleges. They probably share far more similarities than differences.

Look at BARD

ok thx for suggestions so far I know I really like Wesleyan like I said so out of these three schools which is most similar?

Bates
Colby
Macalester

I'm really interested in skiing in the area as well...I've heard Bates has Sunday River nearby which is the best skiing in New England. Can anyone else inform me more a/b those three schools and I have checked into other suggestions and am applying to some, thanks everyone.

I don't really know anything about Macalaster, but from all the people I've met and general impressions from reading, Bates is more similar to Brown, Wesleyan than Colby is.

thanks that's what I was thinking after reading alot about the college...I will definitely be adding Bates onto the list. I love finding schools that I had no idea about. :)
