I ve heard from numerous people that some schools regard Standarized scores in a much lesser manner than other schools. For example the University of Chicago only considers them, and don't consider them so highly..... are there any other notable schools like that?

Here is the list of all schools that don’t use the SAT at all.
[Optional List | FairTest](ACT/SAT Optional List for Fall 2025 - Fairtest)

There is considerable data out there from research done by various schools that disproves the notion that SAT scores correlate to the success ratio of students in college. To the contrary, some schools have proven that sometimes students with less than stellar SAT scores can excel in college, while students with very high SAT scores sometimes bomb. Often its because of study habits and motivation and maturity issues (both sides of that ledger.)

Its an open question. Many schools use the SAT for a preliminary cut off (such as anyone below the middle 50th percentile of their applicant pool range is automatically out) and also use it for determining who gets an academic scholarship as gpa’s are often very high and often highly manipulated.

The entire college admissions game is rather peculiar and in recent years with tuition costs skyrocketing people are doing anything and everything to get a high SAT score, sometimes things that are unethical or at a minimum favor the wealthy.

Before World War II only a small percentage of Americans even considered going to college and a high school diploma was the normal entrance requirement for many professional jobs.

(Bill Gates and Steve Jobs both dropped out of college and never completed a degree.)

Now, a much higher percentage of students are entering college and finishing their degrees…and some would say more than the job market can bear. The information age is burning out…and many companies are looking overseas for cheaper employees. The Google Era is likely over.

Now what? I don’t know.

I personally despise the SAT and all it represents. I resent colleges use it to dole out scholarship funds and then we find kids who have excelled in college cant get scholarship money because “the schools only give it out to incoming freshmen.” There are all sorts of scams out there people employ to “get that super high SAT score and scholarship offer.”

There are major flaws in how the SAT is given and scored, despite the College Board insisting it is statistically valid and highly accurate predictor of success.

It is what it is.

Its a right of passage.

If you didnt do as well as you planned then focus on schools that are optional SAT or schools more in line with your range of scores.

We are also too credentialist in this country. Its completely bogus to assume one cannot be successful in life if they didnt go to an IVY or other super elite school.

Just my two cents.
