I'm wondering if people can help me come up with schools that have great athletic spirit. When I say that I mean large turnouts at games for whatever staple sports they may have and some sort of culture around the athletics and school pride. The main criteria is that the schools be ranked ~top 30 nationally or top 20 LACs. Thanks

27 USNWR’s Best National Public Universities, UCONN, in Storrs, Connecticut.

Michigan, Stanford, UNC-Chapel Hill, Vanderbilt, Duke (for basketball), Cal…I’m sure I’m leaving one or two off.

Cornell and UPenn have the most athletic spirit in the Ivy League.

I don’t think Penn is anywhere near the level of athletic culture the OP is wanting. Just not there.

Vanderbilt, Michigan, Stanford, UTexas (not as highly ranked but a great school)

Just look for the school to be D1 in whatever sport.

Notre Dame, Vandy, Stanford, Michigan, Wake, UNC-Ch, Cal, UCLA, Duke, Georgetown, USC, BC for top 30 schools.

Analgin- that is incorrect information. Many schools are D1 and don’t have a particularly strong athletic culture- most of the Ivy schools, for example. Rice is D1 and strong in baseball, but no one would claim that it has a strong athletic culture at all.

Look for top public universities with football teams. In the USNWR top 30 rankings, U Mich Ann Arbor and UNC Chapel Hill.

Other schools that come to mind off the top are Penn State and Ohio State.

You’d be hard pressed to find a LAC with large turn-outs for games. But, several top LACs have an athletic culture with high participation rates in varsity and club sports. Williams, Amherst, Haverford and Davidson are some of the 20 LACs th that emphasized athletics and boasted high participation rates when we visited. I’m sure there are more. If you want to participate in athletics, a div 3 LAC is a good bet (Davidson is Div 1).

Wake Forest - The size and culture of a large LAC with big-time sports and rabid fans.

For selective LAC’S might look at Holy Cross(1 hour from Boston), Davidson, and Bucknell. Holy Cross has great school spirit and competes against the Ivies in most sports. HC has January 15th application due date and is need blind for admissions.

Yeah I was mostly wondering if there were LACs where like everyone shows up for the hockey games…I know that they a few have very competitive teams but was curious whether people showed up or not

Notre Dame
USC

Ayaa, I know my Williams D has been to several basketball and ice hockey games. She went to a squash match today. I know Rugby is a popular spectator sport amongst the students.

Bucknell and Holy Cross has good fan support for their division 1 basketball.
