Yo..mediocretes ..dont worry if ur freshman and sophmore grades ruined ur GPA...as long as you show improvement..it should be no problem.

Gonzaga University is Feb 1st. Have you guys ever heard of it?

Gonzaga is a middlin' quality mid-sized Catholic-run college in Washington; periodically they have a very decent basketball team.

Beyond that, I don't know much about it.

gosh I sensed a disparaging tone...
that's what is wrong with the people on this board.. they are all elitist. If it isn't in the top 25, it isn't worth their time. I can see not knowing much about it because it is small, but if you don't know then don't refer to it as "middlin' quality" school. Most of the kids at my public hs couldn't get in and long to be able to. Not everyone can have a 1600 and a 5.0. Jeesh!

Er, Gonzaga has a 77% admission rate and 1180 median SAT, so it isn't exactly selective. It also isn't much of a stretch to call it "middle-quality", because it isn't really known for anything at all, although it still is above the average.

I wasn't trying to say the kids from my school who want to go there are really remarkable or anything and besides you cannot base the quality of the institution on those stats. I'm not trying to compare it to Harvard, I'm just trying to defend the school.

You can't necesarily base the quality of the school, but it is a pretty good indicator of the quality of students it admits. The fact that some kids in your high school would love to go there doesn't make it much more than middlin' quality. I know people at my school who would love to go to Troy State or UNA, of which you may or may not have heard... that doesn't make them good schools.

wells college in NY is March 1

I think Earlham is 2/15

Gonzaga's not bad, if you be catholic. It's in the middle of nowhere though. Seattle University, on the other hand, is actually somewhere worthwhile. I can't vouch for the academics, and it's expensive, but they do have rolling admissions.

Rolling Admission sounds like a good idea. More schools should catch on to this idea.

ok, its past january 15th so i missed most of the schools (stupid me) i was waiting for the decision from my ED2 which turned out to be a rejection

anyhow, the one half decent school i see in this list is wisconsin, which i have just finished. if anyone knows any other school i may apply to, or if i may apply past the deadline please let me know on this thread or via aim (mrbigboichoi) thank you

louischoi,

These are all very good schools (but only you kow what you are looking for.) Some of the other state schools listed on Page 1 of this thread are probably great too, but I know more about LACs:

UVa (24th)
Swarthmore (tomorrow?)
Grinnell (deadline tomorrow I think)
Smith (for women)
Denison
Kenyon
Northeastern
American
U Maryland
Muhlenberg
Dickinson
Rhodes
Beloit

Most of the LACs take the Common Application; if you do one you may as well do three or four since the extra work is minimal.

Good luck!!

thank you very much sbmom

You are very welcome. please check the dates asap in case I am off on any of them. :)

Hi guys
I wish to inquire about where I can find a list of schools that have free application fees.

Can anyone tell me?

u of michigan ann arbor is feb 1st. i don't know if someone's mentioned it already.

Scripps' deadline was moved back to 1/15 (thus, it's probably too late to apply). Just to clear any confusion.

louischoi, take a look at Denison University - nice LAC in Ohio, 2/1 deadline; free online application, lots of scholarship money, even one specified for Asian students (going by your screenname). Good economics department - I think this was one of your areas of interest? For you and the other poster looking for deadlines and fees. start with the commonapp.org listing under "college-specific information". You'll have a list in no time.

UNC's new deadline is February 2 on a space-available basis.
