Schreyer Honors College Gateway

Yo I'm looking to gateway into the SHC for next fall and I'm wondering if anyone here has successfully gateway'd and it was like. I understand that gateway students do not receive every perk that a first-year SHC student has.
So for those that did the gateway process, was it worth it? Do you like the decision you've made?

great question. I’m in the same boat, someone answer!

Haha I hope you didn’t start your application with “Yo”. I was a gateway freshman in 2012 for reference. The Honors College can entail a lot of work, so be careful about applying just for the perks. I am personally very glad that I chose to apply when I did. I met a lot of ambitious and well spoken students through the college. Priority scheduling is awesome of course. There is a minimum GPA, honors course requirement, and thesis at the end. Only incoming honors students receive the scholarship - but all else is equal. You get all the networking opportunities and resources of the honors college.

@fervescere Hi! I’ll be attending PSU. I was admitted to Temple’s honor program and not schreyers, but I’m motivated to do well at PSU and get admitted to Schreyers as early as possible. The people I spoke to stated that I could get gateway’d as a Junior, but when is the earliest time I can apply? I saw on the site it said I had to complete one full semester…so can I apply the second semester of my freshman year?

It depends. Some departments admit students in the junior year (you apply end of sophomore year) and others earlier. You should contact the department of your proposed major to inquire about the process and timing.
