Science Research Questions

So have any of you here done any science research? Because I was thinking of starting to contact professors but not exactly sure on how to go about writing the emails. Any ideas from those who are experienced?

lolz. you're just like me.

and i would suggest NOT saying you're doing it for any competition.
first ask if they are available.
then move from there.

but don't be too unforceful.
be aggressive in getting a spot.

haha. I'm not doing it particularly for any competitions. This really smart senior was like "Why aren't you working in lab? Go work in lab! " So here I am. Unfortunately, she doesn't have good connections so she said the lab she worked in was really narrow-minded and incompetent hehe.

I wanted to do my own experiments but I don't have funding neither. Neither does Rutgers apparently so currently, I okay project for ISEF but it would be nice if the mentors I worked with had more funding. Its so frustrating to hear, "I known your smart and motivated, but we simply don't have that type of money". And I wasn't requesting anything extravagant. So right known I'm just trying to build trust so hopefully maybe by next year they'll let me run my own experiments.

But I doubt it will work out so for now it just for the experience. But some awards to back up my competence wouldn't be so bad either:)

Are any of you taking a college class? If you were, it would be way easier, as you can talk to your professor, and get connections...Otherwise, I wouldn't know how you could contact one.

yeah that's why I i might be taking Molecular Biology at Princeton next year but I've heard loads of people on CC emailing profs and getting internships so I was wondering how does one go about writing such a email?

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/474726-finding-scientific-research-do-over-summer.html?highlight=professor+research%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/474726-finding-scientific-research-do-over-summer.html?highlight=professor+research</a></p>

Read through that^

And search the "summer programs" forum for "professor research" or "email professor." Sounds stupid, but I got good info by doing that.

^thanks really helpful

and in addition to the link, go to this site called scholar hollar.com (omit the space between scholar and hollar when typing in the address bar).

There should be a sample of how to write a such email and a resume. it totally helped me to snag an internship at a Harvard-MIT lab for the summer and a UCONN mercury internship!

^Nice, I'll be sure to check it out. But, what do you guys all do if you get accepted by a summer program, but have to reject all the other college prof. offers?
