For me, it was just general trends in the past couple of years, but I’ve heard it can be more specific than that. I would check the news in the days leading up to your interview, and then just make sure you know the big issues. Hope that helps!
Did anyone else have their interviews?
Hope all of your interviews are going well! Best of luck in the process
Hi, does anyone know if Dual BA students can chose concentrations at Columbia in addition to their major (especially if they wish to do a joint major already)? If so, would it be realistic or would the workload be to heavy for only two years?
It really depends on the major/concentration whether it’s feasible. In theory, you can do whatever concentration/major/double major combination you want, but of course not all of them will allow you to finish Columbia within two years. Generally, social science majors (economics, political science, history, etc) are pretty common and certainly possible to do in two years. I would say that - in most cases - it’s not possible to do a double major or a concentration with your major. There are some joint majors like economics-political science, political science-statistics, economics-philosophy, etc. which are manageable.
But if you know for sure that you want to double major or major/concentration, you will want to plan in advance. You may want to take summer classes in order to graduate on time, or you can just do extra semesters at Columbia. It’s definitely not unheard of for people to spread out their credits at Columbia and complete their degree in five or more semesters instead of four semesters (two years). I know somebody who majored in economics and did a special concentration in sustainable development, and he did an extra year at Columbia. Most people aim to finish their major at Columbia in two years, since staying longer of course means we pay more tuition. But it’s really up to you what you want to do!
Thank you!!
For those who are doing the interview online, how is it supposed to work? My page just says “the interview has not yet begun. this page will continue loading when the interview begins.”
There’s also a “connect” button. Does it open another platform for the interview?
Anything would be greatly appreciated!!
Normally, you’ll get an email one day before your interview, which will explain that you must download Google Chrome (if you haven’t yet) and an app called Zoom by which will occur the conference. Then, by clicking the link provided by the email, you’ll get directed to Chrome then to the app and wait until your host (the interviewers) open the platform too. That’s when your interview begins or at least that’s what I understood will happen.
Agh, this is a bit of a selfish worry, but I fear that coronavirus and Columbia shutting down could mean delays in hearing back about our applications. Anyone have any news? Are they planning on keeping on schedule?
Not based on an official source but I believe decisions will be released before April.
If you don’t mind, through what sources exactly?
GSTourGuides, do you have any insight on this?
Just based on the website and what they told me after my interviews.
As far as I know, all administrative services are still in operation at Columbia. It’s only classes which have switched to online instruction for the time being. At this time there’s no reason to believe that there should be delays in admissions decisions.
Right but why did you say before April?
well, because that’s what they say at the end of an interview. They precise that all results will be released end of march~before april.
didn’t the website say decisions will be released april 1st ?
As of now, the plan for the admissions team is still to release decisions in about two weeks.
Hello, do you know how many students usually apply to the Menton campus? Thanks
