I’ve recently been looking into doing scientific research at a local lab, but I’m not sure where to start. If I do help out at a lab, will I be able to enter it into a science fair, or will it not be considered my work? I’m mainly trying to get some research experience, but it would be helpful if I could also enter a science fair or publish a paper. In addition, where can I find information about the different labs and their projects so I can see which ones interest me? If it helps, I’m looking to do research at Lawrence Livermore National Labs (CA). Is there a specific website where you can learn more about the lab? If anyone has any experience with getting into labs, could you please advise me? I’m a HS student btw.
This question gets asked a lot, but not answered a lot. Search for similar posts.
Try asking your science teacher.

I am interested in this question as well, it’s surprising how high school students can be able to produce pretty impressive research for things like ISEF and Regeneron.
Thanks for the advice everyone. Another question, when would be the best time to email them? I did find a couple of projects that I was interested in working in, but I also applied for a few summer camps and haven’t received decisions yet. I figured it would look bad if I emailed them about it, but then couldn’t commit to them the entire summer. Or is it ok if I don’t have my summer plans already worked out before I email them? I’m planning to email the project leaders expressing my interest in working in the lab, and then wait for results. If they reply, I’ll give them more info about my availability over the summer. Does that plan sound good?
