took a class in a gap year after high school at harvard ext. thought it was for no credit... after the first week, stopped going and got a job... now i'm in my third year of college with a 4.0 GPA etc... just found out the no credit course was for credit, was a d+. what do i do? will lsdas calculate this in? do i have any options? it was a stupid error... i'd hate to see it keep me out of a top law school.

So, that course would probably decrease your GPA to approx. 3.6-3.7. Provided that you attain the LSAT score range for such schools, I don't see why you couldn't be competitive for top law schools.

it still sucks though because his 4.00 just dropped to a 3.65 all because of one class that he took before college.... that really sucks...

Assuming four classes a semester, then that one course should actually drop him from a 4.0 to ~3.87.

I had a similar problem and it was factored in to my GPA. I wrote an addendum to my schools explaining the situation and I was admitted to most of the schools that my LSAT would allow.

Does this grade actually show up on your college transcript?

no, you have to request the transcript from harvard ext.

I second rnumiami. That's what addendums are for, and almost every application will encourage you to attach one. You should also call Harvard Ext. and talk to them directly about the problem.

The same thing happened to my son, and he was told to explain it, which he did. He was accepted to several schools, and he'll never know for sure if it contributed to any rejections. I doubt that it did, although he didn't apply to any top schools.
