I’m stuck between applying to scripps or middlebury for ED2. I was deferred from Bowdoin ED1 but I don’t have a huge attachment to the school so I want to try my chances somewhere else.
I want to go into environmental policy or law. I am drawn to the consortium at scripps, but I am more familiar with the social scene at midd and the ultimate frisbee culture etc is super appealing to me. I love everything outdoors, but I am also very social and I think a medium-size school might benefit me. I feel more of a draw to Vermont than LA, but I am used to city living so rural life might get old quick. In general I am super up in arms about which school to apply to ED2, if anyone has any input on differences between the two or strengths and weaknesses it would be appreciated!!
Midd is better for environmental policy, and it seems that you are already leaning in that direction anyway.
Middlebury is a typical rural NESCAC. It is in a small town in beautiful rural VT, it is dominated by kids from the NE, with a large West Coast contingent. The dominant cultures are East Coast Liberal, “Crunchy”, and Preppy. There is a strong outdoors culture, even among the more preppy crowd.
Scripps is a woman only college, part of the 5 Cs, between the LA urban area and the Inland Empire. It is in a very pretty Southern California suburb/town. I am not familiar with the cultures there, so maybe somebody else could help.
If you are looking at environmental policy, why not Pitzer? If you are looking at a woman’s only college, why nor Smith, Wellesley, or Mt Holyoake?
yeah I agree my taste is all over the place but there are certain things that draw me to both. I’m also super interested in Colby which has a developed enviro policy program and is more similar to Midd social culture-wise.
@HrryStylsLuvr Don’t apply ED2 if you’re undecided and if Bowdoin is still your true first choice. My D was deferred from Midd last year, and I tried to convince her to apply to another SLAC ED2. She wouldn’t and ended up with many good RD acceptances including Midd. (She didn’t submit a LOCI, but did send an art portfolio that she refused to submit for ED.) Hang in there!
