Scripps vs. Smith

Hi, I have already posted this thread in a different forum, but I've gotten only one reply so I'm re-posting it here. Hope I get some replies!

I need to choose between smith and scripps college, but im having a lot of mixed thoughts right now. I plan to major in english and psychology, and am hoping to go to a good grad school (perhaps law). Which college has more potential in giving me more opportunities in going to a good grad school and more internships? I am not considering financial aid. I know that a lot of you guys are obviously more biased towards Scripps, but I want to hear everyone's opinions regardless. I want to graduate from a college that will make me a strong individual woman. I'm pretty sure both colleges have each of their own great assets, so I'd like to get some input. Help please?

My D attends Scripps but we live in Mass. and know many women who have attended Smith. I would not worry about grad school before you even begin college. Both schools have excellent reputations and both have a high number of grads who attend top grad schools. I think the really big difference is location. Do you want to be on the east or west coast? Also, while it is possible to take classes at the other Amherst area schools, it does require taking a bus, while at Scripps you can just easily walk to all of the other campuses.
If you have visited both schools, I would just encourage you to go where you felt most at home. Smith enjoys a stronger national reputation as it is much older, but Scripps is ranked very highly and the Claremont Colleges are recognizd as some of the best LAC’s in the country. Good Luck!

I think it is certainly a tough choice. I think both colleges have potential to support your growth into a strong individual, but the college’s do have different atmospheres. Have you had a chance to visit both of them? I think that both colleges can offer what you’re looking for in terms of academics and internships and grad school prep, but if you felt a tug one way or the other during college visits-- go with your gut.
