SCU Class of 2019 Discussion

When my older sister was admitted 3 years ago, she got her award notification about a week later. So don’t worry, it’s coming!

Daughter was admitted last night at midnight via ecampus portal!!

Son was accepted to Leavey School of Business. GPA- 3.99 UW, ACT-33, 5 APS, 10+ honors classes, EC’s, student leadership and a part-time job. I LOVE Santa Clara. He enjoyed our visit last year but unfortunately, we went when there weren’t many students on campus so he didn’t get a true feel for what it would be like as a student there. He’s waiting to find out if he gets into UCLA on Friday and then will have a better idea where Santa Clara is on his list, especially if the school gives him a merit scholarship. Many great students were waitlisted in ED so he’s happy to be accepted. Congrats to all of you…and good luck to those still waiting.

Accepted to College of Letters and Sciences!
SAT: 1950
GPA: 3.7 (UW), 3.9 (W)
Waiting for financial aid now, does anyone know when it comes out?
Accepted: SCU, UCSB, Cal Poly SLO, UCSC, SDSU
Rejected: UCD, NEU, Macalester

Son got accepted! 2290 SAT, wants computer science engineering major. One of favorite schools, so excited!

Accepted to Leavey
SAT/ACT: 1880/29
GPA: 3.5 (UW), 3.8 (W)
Extra curriculars: Nothing special. A lot of volunteering hours.
Also accepted to University of Maryland, College Park

Was deferred from early action surprised I got in

@‌ Rattle
do you get scholarship or award?
accepted… but waiting for xtra $

Waitlisted :frowning: really bummed, this was my top choice. 2020 SAT/F/Engineering.
Accepted the waitlist option immediately and even will change to A&S if i need to haha. I’m hoping to get off waitlist but I know how unlikely that’ll be.

Congrats to everyone who got in anyways!

Oh, I hope you get in! My son plans to go there!

When should we hear about financial aid?

Hey Pinkisking, I hope you get in!!! I think you have a good chance because a lot of accepted students go elsewhere.
Have you thought of calling admissions to ask them if changing your major would increase the probability of acceptance?

Hi guys!

I got waitlisted at SCU too… International applicant with a 2180 for SATs and decent ECs. I’m wondering if my essay was inadequate in revealing what I’m like as a person, and hope someone here will read it for me and tell me what they think!

Anyone…?

I was accepted EA, and I haven’t been able to see my financial award letter for the past couple weeks, but I can see it now. I assume everyone can see it because my mom called earlier this week, and they said they would release all financial aid award letters at once.

Hi SCUSC19,

Your essay was probably just fine but I am happy to look at it if you want. Sometimes I think it is the luck of the draw in who reads your application and how they were feeling as they read it (fatigued, just read several similar essays in a row, etc). My son was super fortunate and was offered a merit scholarship in part they said because of his essay responses. We are in Tokyo right now with limited access to Internet but if you send your essay my way, I’d be happy to look it over.

i was accepted and awarded need based aid, but no merit based. im pretty surprised because my stats are relatively high (2300+ SAT, 4.0+ GPA) so I’m wondering if anyone else is in the same boat? I thought i would qualify for some merit based aid… but theres nothing on my award letter.

@mainmickey same here! i had pretty high stats and i was hoping for a merit scholarship, but i got a large need based grant. i’m not sure which is better? I called the financial aid office and asked about the merit scholarships and they told me I was considered but i didn’t get any.

@ukelelele503‌ My D received merit and need-based grant. The merit is renewable for four years and the need-based grant is determined on a year to year basis (presumably based on your EFC and the information from the CSS profile). Your need-based grant can vary from year to year based on your family’s income and SC’s funding ability.

So, I received merit-based aid of $6800, but no need-based aid at all. To top it off, my EFC is around 12K and that is legitimately the amount that my family would be able to afford to pay since both me and my brother are going to be in college this year. I’m just… how on earth do you expect us to make up the other 50K?

Got full ride! 21ACT 3.1GPA

Accepted with a small amount of merit-based aid, 4.43 GPA, Computer Science.
