I posted this on the Hopkins page also. A lot of people I talk to think Hopkins is a no-brainer. As far as academics and future earning potential go, how do the two compare to one another?

Well, that makes sense, they are at Hopkins and want to support their school. I ultimately got admitted off the waitlist last year at Hopkins, but chose not to attend cuz it cost too much and that waitlist put me through a lot of bullcrap. I think it depends on a lot of factors: how much will each degree cost? Are you an admit to the honors program at SCU? What do you plan to study? Do you care for nice weather? Have you visited either campus, and if so, what do you like/dislike?

I get that Hopkins is hard to turn down, especially as a lacrosse junkie. But don’t let them tell you it’s a no-brainer. We have some great stuff going for us, too, not least of which is that we’re near a way better city than Hopkins is in.

To answer your questions, according to the only measure that is available, SCU has something like the 20th best earning potential of all the schools in the nation. Depends on your major, and Payscale is kind of a dumb measure. Even so. The academics here, especially within the honors program, are likely just as good as Hopkins. My buddies at Stanford seem never to do anything when I’m swamped with labs, essays, etc. This place keeps you honest. Again, really depends on your intended course of study.
