I received notification that I got put on SCU’s waitlist ): I’m currently looking into sending them an appeal letter - just wanted to ask, for those who did, how did it work out for you? And are there any current SCU undergraduate students willing to let me consult you via PM on my appeal letter?
I’m not a senior in highschool, but a friend of mine was waitlisted last year and accepted being on the list. She gave up hope and committed to another school. Towards the end of the school year, she received a call from scu saying she was accepted. She considered it but ultimately was already settled on going elsewhere. So don’t lose hope! Keep calling them and even email an admissions counselor showing your interest
@peanut56 Thank you for your kind words! I am really hoping for an acceptance.
Would like to ask - did your friend do anything additional (extra letters of recommendation, etc.) that would have boosted her chances? Given that they don’t rank the waitlist, I’m not sure how useful sending in more materials will be… Especially since I checked out the SCU Loves Me Class of 2019 Facebook photos and they seem to have accepted many Asians, so they probably will not be needing me for diversity.
I also tried emailing my admissions official, and she told me that my application was not competitive compared to other applicants… Do you think this bodes ill for my chances?
I don’t think she added anything specific but I will say that she is African American and scu, like most schools, likes diversity. Aside from her, the majority of students accepted in that class were all Latino. I do remember though that her gpa wasn’t above a 4.0. She had a decent SAT score. But also keep in mind that the major you are trying to get into has an effect. I don’t remember exactly what major she wanted to get into but either way, there’s a lot that plays into it:/ if I were you, I would call the admissions office and speak with them about the best way to go about being waitlisted. You may feel like you’re being annoying, but you’re being insistent. Many students accepted, probably won’t attend. And if they see how much you’re trying, you never know what could happen! Stay positive and stay in touch with that admissions counselor:)
I recently accepted being switched to the College of Letters and Sciences (instead of enrolling in the Leavey School of Business) on the waitlist option form, so maybe that will increase my chances! I’m planning to send them an appeal letter (hope it gets there before the deadline though, I’m an international applicant).
I was waitlisted to the leavey school of business too! I acceppted the poisition on the waitlist and agreed to being changed into the college of letters and sciences as well but I looked into it and the people who get accepted off the waitlist wouldn’t get institutional aid so I’m not sure if I should even consider it anymore @scusc19
