hi everyone! so originally out of the schools i applied to i had only visited UCSB and UCLA before applying. UCSB was my dream school and i was crushed when i found out i was waitlisted. But since then, I visited SDSU and also fell in love with that campus. i SIRed to SDSU, but yesterday found out i was pulled off the UCSB waitlist.
now i am SO confused and don’t know where to go. i know it is my decision but i was wondering if anyone has any insights. i am currently down as a theater(playwriting) major at UCSB, and a film, television, and new media major at SDSU. my goal is to become a comedy screenwriter. does anyone know about those programs or opportunities in the area and on campus.
Thanks so much!
@Kt4Bunny - What is it that you like about both schools? (I’m a parent of a current Aztec and a graduate of the university)
@Fish125 i really loved the energy at sdsu. it seemed like there were tons of exciting people. i also love san diego and think there would be a lot of good opportunities in the area. and i liked santa barbara because it was beautiful and there was a very laid back vibe to it. its weird because i like them for somewhat opposite reasons.
Is one a better fit financially?
@Fish125 i am in state so they are not overly different in price and money is not too big of an issue
They are two totally different places. One with the quarter system, the other a semester-based one. One is in a major city that has a small town feel, the other in a lovely town. My child has friends in your major at SDSU, and they are an incredibly busy and talented group, but UCSB definitely creates opportunities for their students, too. I wish you much success in choosing the one right for you!!
@Fish125 that is great to hear about sdsu! thank you so much!!
For some reason my post was cut off (twice
@BayAreaRecruiter can you tell me anything about the ucsb theater program??
Hi! Sorry about my cryptic replies… I kept trying to reply from my phone and for whatever reason it would only post the first few words
My roommate was a theater major and loved it!! It was a really tight-knit major…always off doing fun things together. She’s been living her dream working in London ever since we graduated. I am not as familiar with SDSU as UCSB, although one pro towards UCSB would definitely be the quarter system. I transferred from USC, which was semester, and I much preferred the quarter system. I enjoyed taking a wider variety of classes, and the classes never seemed to drag. UCSB also feels like a small community since there are virtually no commuters. I loved that about UCSB! I’ve met really nice students from SDSU as well, and I’m sure you’ll be happy wherever you end up!
