Hello, I'm only a 14 year old boy, so still too young for college, but I am trying to do a little searching now so I don't panic later. I am striving to be either an audio/acoustical or civil engineer, so for the acoustical/audio engineers, I have a few questions:

1) What is the difference between acoustical and audio engineering, or is audio engineering a sub-category of acoustical engineering?

2 a) What are some good schools offering acoustical/audio engineering (depending on the first question)?

b) Based on those schools, are there any that also offer civil engineering, so if I decided to switch I wouldn't have to change schools?

Thank you very much for the input.

I’ll let someone else better explain the difference.

There are a few acoustic courses:

Texas State, U of Hartford CN, Columbia College Chicago, American, Purdue

Hartford and Purdue also do Civil Engineering

Dare I also suggest you look into these careers? Audiologist, Medical Physics, Speech Therapy. Humour me. And ignore any connotations of the the last one being a woman’s career.

Thank you both very much for the input! One of my mom’s friends studied to be an audio engineer and she explained that he realized how involved you have to be (i.e. losing sleep and always there, whenever the band wants to be there).

Now, one day later, I am beginning to reconsider the profession, I still want to do acoustical engineering, just not necessarily the recording aspect of it.
