I’m an eighth grader who is applying as a late applicant (second round applicant) to prep schools like Loomis and Hotchkiss and wondering how slim my chances are? Also, will I be put on the waitlist and evaluated with them? How fast will my results come out?
I wasn’t aware that Hotchkiss had a second round. I don’t think they have one, they have no need for more applications. Given that the admissions rate for a standard application is extremely low, I’m afraid your chances are not high.
Do you know anything about Loomis?
I don’t. You might consider less well known schools that are still welcoming applications. In past years someone posted a list, so some googling will probably turn up those schools.
Unless you would be a day student because your parent is transferring to CT to become CEO of the US subsidiary, or similar, I don’t see either entertaining your application. If they do, you will be waitlisted at best.
If your reason for applying is not as above, you are better served looking for schools that are still accepting applications, which will be at a much different level than Loomis or Hotchkiss.
Yes your chances are slim.
However, I know two kids who were admitted to well known schools with late (well after due date) applications so I suppose it’s possible. I would assume that you need to be a compelling applicant for this to work, star athlete, senator’s child, etc.
