I know that you give great suggestions on this board. DD is currently a junior. She has not yet taken the ACT, but based on the PLAN, her score will probably be around 30. Her unweighted GPA is 3.75. She is an honors/AP student with average ECs. We live in the south, and she is interested in smaller colleges/universities outside of the south. She is interested in double majoring in English and Theater with a minor in psychology. The net price claculators for private colleges are consistently giving us a net price of $30,000-32,000, which is what we would be able to pay. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Connecticut College. If you research this school and it seems appropriate, then you can also look into some of Conn’s peer schools, which can be more or less selective.
“She is interested in double majoring in English and theatre with a minor in psychology.”
Colleges with notably flexible curricula, such as Hamilton, Smith and Grinnell, would match her well for this type of goal.
My D is a psychology major and a theater minor at Lafayette College (and has also taken a couple of English classes there and enjoyed them). She loves her theater classes and has been involved in many on campus shows both on stage and behind the scenes. She has also had great psych professors and is involved with psychology department research projects on campus (she even had a paid research job last summer on campus). And she has at least a few friends who are English majors there and are also very happy. Lafayette has been a great place for my D to grow academically and to pursue her many varied interests – I think its a school that is worth looking into.
A couple of other ideas not noted above might be Muhlenberg and Skidmore You might also try using the supermatch function on the left – it is under find a college heading.
She might qualify for merit aid at Drew, and it’s probably an academic safety or low-match for her. The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ is on campus.
Thank you for the great ideas!

English and Theater with a minor in psychology.

theater can be all-consuming…rehearsals, performances, etc. It maybe difficult to do Theater with English (which is also a time-consuming major…reading, writing, re-writing, etc).
If she could only do one of those two, which would it be?
Look at LMU in Calif.
Based on how many interests she has, I would definitely recommend Skidmore. I recently toured there and they really encourage double majoring, major/minoring, or both. In fact, a vast majority of students double major. It’s a great school and I think her stats would be right on target for it.
