Considering University of West Florida, Eastern Michigan University and Texas Tech University. Does anyone has any feedback/recent experiences with any of these 3 Universities. They all seem to have a robust programs for students with Aspergers, but I wish I could hear from a student or parent on their recent experience. Our son now attends a small Community College, doing well academically, but social connections hard to come by. We are looking for a College that will offer strong social support, and internship and help with work experience/internship. Any info.will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Based on !little information, I think I would choose the one closest to home and or the school where the climate is most familiar to the student. Consider reading program descriptions to find the best match for your student’s strengths and needs. What is the living or rooming arrangement and to what extent can it be modified and when and other questions that may be especially relevant to your student.
I have found that some students do well in college, particularly if they know how to show good social skills, even if sorta stiff. All the brains and good academic skills may not be enough for some kid who are uncomfortable going to or in class, monopolize class by excess talking and other social skills. If the programs seem comparable, which one is the very best match for your student. This is a very individual decision based on the compatibility of child and program. Also, do ask your student for input about the best match and why. Unless your student has not carefully read and thought about each program, ultimately I would defer to your students choice unless you can clearly cite why the child’s preference won’t work.
