Really, the summer requirement at a Florida school is not a big deal and I’ve never heard anyone complain about it. FSU and UF start the fall term very early, and the spring term ends in April, so the summer terms start in May. There are A, B, C sessions, and some classes are in one session, some are 8 weeks, some 4 weeks, etc… There are 3 summer sessions, and you could take 1 course in the May term each summer and still go do an internship or summer job. You could take one summer to take all 9 credits, or even take a full term and then go do an internship for the fall. Several of the kids my daughter’s graduated from high school with started as freshmen in June, immediately after graduation, at FSU and FAU. Some students are accepted for summer admission only, maybe because of grades, maybe because they need a class only open in the summer.
Florida high schools now require one online class too. No one complains about that either.
I don’t know anything about FAMU. You have to determine if it’s the right school for you. FSU is ‘the’ school in town, but obviously a lot of kids go to FAMU and some go to the community college there. I know all three schools share some university housing, and I’m sure they party together!
