Seen any good movies lately?

@scout59 I really enjoyed the movie especially the 30 minutes after the credits with the director discussing how he made the film. He went into detail about why he selected the particular theme featured, the source of the footage and “narration”, and how the team restored the film, both visually and auditory. The theater was packed with almost everyone staying until the very end.

Today I saw one of the Oscar-nominated documentaries, Free Solo, about the first man to scale El Capitan without ropes. Loved it. Caught my eye because one of the directors is an alum of ds1’s school, and the school’s FB page congratulated him. I knew how it turned out, but my palms were sweaty by the end. I especially liked learning how they shot the documentary in such a way as to not be a distraction to the climber, lest they cause him to fall.

New York Times has a 10 min behind the scenes video of Free Solo called What if He Falls? The Terrifying Reality Behind Filming “Free Solo”. The film crew is more terrified filming him than Alex Honold climbing.

The Free Solo directors put much thought into the process, the impact of filming on observing the event, understanding Honnold’s motivations, etc. Really interesting stuff.

There are videos of some of the sessions the directors and/or Alex Honnold have participated in during the Free Solo press junket. If the links don’t go thru: search Jimmy Chin Google presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oq_vvnxZ6I0

There are a number of other ones as well.

I wasn’t amused by Crazy Rich Asians, either.

Saw “Roma” and thought it was exceptional, though it did break my heart. Yalitza Aparicio - extraordinary. It’s stunning that Alfonso Charon was the director, screenwriter, AND cinematographer.

I’m so happy about the Oscar nominations for Best Actress this year: Aparicio, Glenn Close, Olivia Colman, Lady Gaga, and Melissa McCarthy. I’ll be thrilled for the winner, whichever one it is.

I really enjoyed Aquaman. The lead, Jason Mamoa seems like such an interesting and nice guy.

Saw Green Book and A Star is Born. Loved them both. Saw Beale Street based on the many 5 star reviews. It had its moments but it was so boring! I can’t remember ever looking at my watch so much during a movie.

Highly recommend Three Identical Strangers. Fascinating and incredibly sad as well.

Roma. Enjoyed it very much. Not for everyone.

The Favorite. Good acting, interesting

Leave No Trace on Amazon Prime. A quiet, slow, yet captivating father/daughter story. I watched it last night and have been thinking about it all day. Ben Foster, one of my favorites, plays the dad.

I saw Roma on the big screen. It was…different. Husband hated it, but I can’t blame him. It didn’t portray men in a very positive light.

I have never laughed so hard while reading a movie review!

I guess the extra half a star was given for that… ahem… cameo.

BB, the reviewers are so annoyed at this film that many are just giving all the spoilers in their reviews. I won’t be going.

I bet some would go to watch just because… bad. Take Sharknado. Who watches this crap?!

I watched Beautiful Boy on Amazon last night. A good movie, good acting. Very effective score.

Saw Vice. Depressing how many corrupt power mongers are out there :frowning:

I second the recommendation to see Three Identical Strangers. Excellent film.

Finally saw Blackkklansman last night. Very powerful movie. It was uncomfortable to watch, parts of it and I imagine making it was a little awkward for the cast.
