Self study AP Tests, not taking the AP Course

I'm wondering if Colleges look the same when they see that you take an AP Exam and get a favorable score like say, a 5 but then realize that you did not take that course from your transcript.

I want to self study for some courses because I was rejected from an AP Course in our school and I was wondering if that'd be pretty much the same.

thanks

Yeah go ahead and self study some exams. It shows initiative, self-motivation, and organization. Plus if you do well, you can earn college credit. I would recommend self-studying the courses that are most interesting to you that aren’t offered as classes at your school or courses you hope to place out of in college.

You should if you have enough time on your hands or if the test is kinda easy and you wanna self study it in a short amount of time

But honestly, don’t do too much self study APs because that looks like resume padding

A friend of mine took the AP Language/Composition exam last year without having taken the course and got a 4 or 5. So I recommend taking that one…
Colleges may look at it as being ambitious and will see that you are intelligent enough to take an AP test and do well without having a year-long course to prepare you for it.

It’s not as good as getting an A in the AP class and a 5 on the test, but it can still help, so go for it.

This is the main reason why I selfed an AP this year. For some sciences, such as chemistry, some colleges will not give credit unless you had labs. But selfing does show some personality on your app, so go for it! Just make sure you dont find the subject matter boring, or else you could find yourself procrastinating! (trust me, if you procrastinate on selfing an ap, you’ll want to kill yourself in April) good luck!

If a particular AP isn’t offered at school or you can’t take it for some reason (as is the case here), self-studying shows a good deal of motivation and passion for learning outside of the classroom.

However, if an AP is offered at school and you simply choose to instead take the online course, it doesn’t fare quite as well. It really is in your best interest to take a rigorous courseload and get good grades- to colleges, taking AP classes and getting good grades in them is more impressive than simply mastering AP material.

Either way, self-studying is beneficial, but still try to take advantage of opportunites to take AP courses at school.

Yes, it’s pretty much the same as long as you do well on the AP exam.

does any one know a good website where i can take online AP courses? Thanks :)

^florida virtual school?

I believe collegeboard has online AP courses… I’m not sure though…

Nevermind. Collegeboard doesn’t. But I’m sure the website has a list of online AP courses and online learning providers…

thanks for the great responses so far.
Any recommendations for AP self study courses? I was thinking Bio (cause im taking the course and it’s required), possibly Psychology, and APUSH

cricket is there any way that you could supply that website?

@Chillypenguin

Maybe not APUSH, but Pysch, Human geo, and Env Sci are all fairly easy ones.

Jman, this is all I could find…
[AP Course Audit - Online Learning](<a href=“For Online/Distance Learning Providers of AP Courses – AP Central | College Board”>For Online/Distance Learning Providers of AP Courses – AP Central | College Board)
I don’t have an account but I think if you make one you can find more information…

Bio is not that hard if you put youre mind to it. i did it this year, and im thinking of selfing psych for next year. idk what else to do though, cuz psych is supposedly way to easy and will not keep me busy.

If you are good at English I would recommend taking Language and Composition (or Literature and Composition).

well ill be forced to take the AP bio exam, so what evers.
Yeah, we’ll see about APUSH, anyone who has taken it with input?
How’s psych as in relatively easy?
