Self-study for AP classes?

Since I'm graduating early, I won't be able to take AP classes. However, I still want to take AP Latin and AP Environmental Science. Is it worth self-studying/prep for these courses throughout the year or am I just better off not risking it?

Why are you graduating early?

There’s no real reason to self-study AP exams unless you want college credit. It doesn’t have any significance for admissions.

I’ve completed all my credits so I would practically have “extra” classes for this upcoming school year. Also, that’s pretty much why I’m considering on self-studying, so I can gain college credit.

When will you be graduating? Have you decided what colleges to apply to?
Graduation requirements are usually pretty minimal, so it’s not necessarily a good idea to graduate early just because you can. In many cases it’s better to stay an extra year to improve your resume and take more advanced classes (often through dual enrollment or AP).

I self studied AP Environmental Science and it was one of the easier AP tests for me. If you do decide to self-study, good luck!

Sorry for the late reply!
You have a good point @halcyonheather. I’ll be graduating Jan 2015, and so far my top choice is SUNY ESF. I’m interested in an environmental major so yea; idk I just think that I would have more time for work or an internship so graduating early would allow me to have a very flexible schedule. However, I recently attended a college visit there, and the admissions counselor said they prefer 4 years of math and science, otherwise students with only 3 years would have a more difficult time understanding the concepts and mechanisms behind their subjects. So I was wondering instead of graduating early, I have a short schedule (like 1-5) which would include a math and science class and by the time I leave (12:10 PM), I can just go to work or whatever.
@TheFellowMello really? What resources did you use to self-study? Thanks!

I used Barron’s and just read that. Good luck!

Self-study - there is no risk. Worst case, if you get a poor score, you can hide your ap scores from colleges. Since they won’t know that you self-studied, they won’t know you’re hiding anything. Obviously, however, try your best!

Thanks for the advice @swimmygirl123 and @TheFellowMello!
