Self-studying...am I going to kill myself?

I think I am going to try 5 APs this year (freshman).
-AP Environmental Science
-Human Geo
-Bio
-Psychology
-Art History

Have a few questions though. Has anyone taken Art History? Can’t find much about it, especially study material. Also, how about economics- bith macro and micro. Hard, easy, medium? Thanks!

Oh my! I wish I were you =P. When I was a freshman, the concept of self-studying was unknown.

You’ll definitely be on your way to Yale then! xD!

What worries me is that psych has a parallel course offered in my school, but I’m self-studying it anyways…

I just want to make way for more APs later on…, but colleges will have no reason not to think that I’m lazy b/c there was no direct schedule conflict…

Art History as a self-study would be extremely difficult; there’s an enormous amount of material involved, and if you’re not already fairly experienced with visual art analysis, there’s a good chance you’ll end up stumbling uselessly in the dark. Seriously, rethink this. It has disaster written all over it.

err…art history? I’m not considering doing art history =P

Someone else posted asking about Art History; look at post 21.

lol im a freshman self-studying 6 aps. im sure you’ll do fine.
just start early.

take the time u have…
now I’ma junior, w/ all the volunteer and job, and 3 APs I think my goal to self study some AP classes might be crushed…
I’m not smart and I’m still improving my english skills…so …

but good luck! best wishes…

If you have the time, do it. If you have the commitment and are good at learning from a book, you’ll be fine with any Social Science AP. They’re mostly all memorization. Only problems might be analytical writing, the DBQ and FRQs, but you should be practicing those in APUSH anyway.

My school doesnt even offer APs for sophomores, so lucky you :</p>

OK… I am really worrying about this.

I’m getting messages of “you rather get a 5 on 3 then get 3’s on 5!”

I RATHER HAVE THAT! (but IF possible, I also rather get 5 5’s =P)

See, I’m doing AP Chinese, USH, Human Geo, Psychology, and World History.

APUSH, Chinese, and Human Geo I “have” to take becaues I’m taking the courses.

Psychology … I don’t know.

World History – EEEEEEK!

And I’ve heard SO MANY people say “I just read it twice and got a 5”.

I can’t do that! Here’s what I do:

1) Read it once
2) Forget 80%
3) Repeat above until I get everything, which takes at least an extra hour off every day when I need it for homework, etc. Ok, time isn’t that much of a problem, but you know what I mean? Ok, I can do this. BUT

FRQ and DBQs. AHHH! 3 essays in WHAP? EEEKK!

5 is a formidable number, but I thought that it would be okay because Human Geo, Chinese and maybe psych would be easy.

And then World History is just for the challenge, and plus I’ve got APUSH already in and some random facts that I know.

**Please help with advice =) for “veteran” self-studiers who know what load I can take. **

For some personal stats…I usually just read chapters over once for APUSH before test (and get full score…BUT that’s with a teacher!) – my APUSH essays are graded B+s on average…

Current average in APUSH is B+…and gpa is 3.90 …

Thank you for helping, I’m really lost, becuase this year is…

1) my FIRST APs EVER.
2) my FIRST AP self-studying EVER
3) my FIRST time studying ANYTHING about psychology, human geography, and most of world history EVER.

THANKS for understanding! I’m just REALLY REALLY worried that I’ll be one of those who attempt too many APs and get 3s! i’m really aiming for 5s! I might cry over 4! I’m that kind of a person, so experienced people, please tell me the two sides of this:

What I am looking at if I plan to take 5
Alternatives

THANK YOU!

(and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! But for me, it’s a worrying new year :()

OK. I know I’m kind of presenting one side of the case… on the other side I have…

1) Hardworking and 2) not dumb.

THAT’S IT! Please help  it’ll mean a lot.

Don’t have much advice…last year I only took 1 AP…stressing enough
This year I got 6. But it’s been manageable so far (not self-studying though…)
By the time AP exams come around…I’ll probably be a mess haha :)

But Psychology and Human Geography shouldn’t be hard to study AT ALL
World History will probably be hard but not impossible!

Get some AP prep books ASAP. They’re probably the best tools for studying APs. Barrons Human Geo and Psychology books are pretty good!

If you’re junior and you’re already taking the hardest courseload your school offers…I wouldn’t try to self-study a ton of APs. 3 at the MOST.

good thing I’m a sophomore then.

I just hope I don’t blow it this year.

Because I’m planning to get 5 APs this year, then only self study 1 during the summer, and then NO MORE SELF-STUDYING anymore :D.

I highly recommend self-studying for Psychology using PR and/or 5 steps to a 5
I do NOT recommend self-studying for AP World History because it is a difficult exam…same goes for AP European History.
