Self-Studying for AP Chemistry and/or AP European History

<p>Okay, I'm just going to ask and hope that I don't sound stuck up or pretentious. :P</p>

<p>I'm a sophomore and I go to a pretty hard, though small, prep school. Since it's so tiny, all the classes are considered honors or AP, there's no "regular" track (not enough students for more than two sections of any core class). My chemistry class is pretty in-depth, and a lot of kids are struggling in it, but I don't it find it very challenging (I'm pretty good with science and math) so I was wondering if it would be possible to self-study AP topics with the class and take the exam. We do have an advanced chemistry class I could take my junior or senior year. I'm also in precalculus, if that makes changes the do-ability any. If AP Chem would be too hard, is there anything else challenging that I could outside of class?</p>

<p>As for AP European History, we have one class we can take for history: world history 10. But, it's a very difficult class, our teacher is great and we cover a LOT of material, including stuff about Europe. European history is probably my favorite to learn, so I would be motivated to put in extra time to study for the exam.</p>

<p>TL;DR: do you think it's advisable to self-study either of these? My teachers would likely be able to assist me due to the nature of the school; it would be like an independent study which we allow. Thanks! Once again I hope I didn't come off as pretentious.</p>

<p>As someone who has taken both AP Chem and AP European History, I would recommend AP Euro…I felt that it was much easier than AP Chem. I highly doubt your reg. chem class has covered 1/10 of the material of AP Chem. But in the end, it’s more about your personal preferences. Self-studying APs really isn’t that difficult! I have no doubt you can do it successfully regardless of which you choose (perhaps even do both…you can always cancel the score with zero penalty if necessary) - just make sure you devote adequate time in the months prior to the exam.</p>
