What do you love about Middlebury?

It's cold. It's far. It's isolated. It's intellectual. And as a result, most people who attend have a pretty good sense that they really want to be there and didn't need to be sold on it.

yeah... why do others need to sell you on Midd? it should sell itself. I mean, If you've looked at it or researched it and it hasn't spoken to you, then it is probably not the school for you. if it did, then apply. (not trying sound mean, more philosophical)

^Agreed. If you visit and you do the typical research on it and it still doesn't appeal to you, you probably shouldn't be applying.

OK, I'll bite (although, I agree, you shouldn't need to be sold on a school. It should reach out and grab you). Middlebury is a small close knit school in the heart of the Northeast's ski country. It sounds isolated, but has the academic and cultural qualities of any of the top universities in the nation. People come to Midd because they really want to be there, not because they couldn't get in anywhere else. That makes for an engaging and engaged community. The Professors there have had the opportunity to teach just about anywhere else, but they've chosen Middlebury and they stay there for a LONG time. That connection to the school and the community makes Profs who want to teach and they're REALLY good at it. I just knew when I came out of my interview at Middlebury that it was where I was going to go to school.
