So obviously Dartmouth is the only college in the country that requires a peer evaluation. But can we tell friend to send his recommendation to every college that I am applying? I guess it would be counting as a supplemental rec. Btw, my friend knows me really well and can reveal many aspects of me outside of classroom. Anyone done this before? Or is it a bad idea?

My friend, the most talented writer I know and really a close friend, wrote my Dartmouth recommendation and it was absolutely incredible. I asked on CC if I could send it everywhere but was advised against it. If colleges really wanted one, they would ask for one (I think that was the reasoning?). I’m not going to say not to do it (I still wonder what would have been had I done it, even though I got in to most of the schools I applied to).

Connecticut College also allows peer evaluations (I wrote an evaluation for her for CT College).

Unless a college specifically asks for a peer recommendation, don’t send one.

Duke wouldn’t mind a LOR from a friend:

"We seek to understand and appreciate you as an individual. If there is a parent, sibling, other relative, or friend of yours who you think could help us do that, we would be happy to receive a one-page letter from one of them. This optional information will be considered in our understanding of you as a person, but will not be formally evaluated as part of your application.
"

University of Rochester encourages a “family” recommendation- which includes community members. I thought that was great, actually.

Davidson College also requires a peer recommendation.

If you really like it, go ahead and send it to whatever school you want. It will not hurt you: it either won’t matter or it will help.
