I already took my ACT and got a 29. I am going to take the SAT October 1st for the first time (yeah i was dumb and missed it last year) and I am going to send it directly to the college I am applying to early because the deadline is in mid-October. From my practice experience, my SAT score is in the 1700-1900 range. Should I send in only the ACT score (29-1900 on ACT-SAT scale)? Do colleges look at the higher score if you send in both? Should I just not even send in the ACT score?

Stanford University Early Action w/ Art Supplement (deadline is October 15th). And yes, I know that my scores are not that high, but I am going for it anyways… nothing to lose, lol.

First; don’t automatically send in your SAT scores. If they are a lower percentile than the ACT 29 you have already, it could hurt your chances.

What if I send both in then? If the ACT was higher on the scale, would they look at it over the SAT? Or are you saying that their decision also might be biased because they see that I have a lower SAT score? I am looking back at old practice tests that I took. The first two complete ones, I got 1700 and 1740 on 5/22/10 and 7/21/10. The most recent PARTIAL SAT practice test I took on 8/23/2011 got me a 1780 (it was composed of 4 sections). Thanks sooo much. :)

Sorry for being so unsure about it, everyone. I decided to look at the test preferences on other posts around CC and I found that recent developments show that colleges have no preference over which test you submit anymore. I will only be submitting the ACT, and hopefully everything else I have will be good enough to make it into that 15% pool of students… thanks for all of your replies and help!

If you send both, Stanford will use that test which it believes has the higher score. Also, you can actually wait to order the Oct SAT score sent until after it is released rather than making Stanford a free send. It will cost $10.50 for a send done after the score is released but you can see your score first before deciding to send. The test score can arrive after the app deadline date for Stanford and thus if you order it sent right after it is released, you will be fine.
