So I took 2 subject tests today (math IIC and lit)... Lit i have no clue how I did (which is not a bad sign since that's how my AP practice and AP tests in general have worked where i do pretty nicely), but math (which is normally one of my stronger subjects) i ran out of time before i could complete the test (leaving almost 10 blank.. which included the ones I skipped over some to save time... my question is:

I had planned on paying for my additional score reports of SAT I's that i just took once these scores came in that way saving money since i had another 4 free from this... except now I'm reconsidering. Only one of my schools requires 3 subject tests (i took US history in the spring and did decently), and it's a reach school that i'm applying to for the heck of it, so I'm not expecting to get in anyway

Is it a better idea to buy my extra reports now so my other schools don't see the scores (they are reported as considering scores if submitted), or is it okay to have htem see the scores and they won't hurt me? I've given up on the school that requires them at this point...

Also, my favorite school (and originally my most likely school to go to ) strongly recommends them (2 of them), but only recommends them... is it better to just have them get only one score, and not see the others... or is it better for them to get bad scores and they won't hurt me? If my scores are good I will buy them again, but is it worth using the four free ones now?

rhb - I'm a mom, but my D is having to consider the same things. I can't tell you what to do, but I'll share my D's thoughts on things.

In her case, all her schools either don't ask for them, or else they only "welcome", "recommend", or "suggest" them. One school recommended math and one more. She was signed up for math, lit, and German - and ended up skipping the math - just never had time to practice. I don't know if she'll try math in December, or just be done with it.

She took the 4 "free" score reports, sending them to the schools that mentioned SAT IIs. She made sure to send score reports to several schools that only asked for SATs before she took the SAT IIs, since those scores will now be part of her record. She also wondered if sending SAT IIs to schools that didn't ask for them might hurt her by implying that she's looking at other schools with more stringent requirements.

$9.50 per school to send them again elsewhere if the SAT IIs are great will be worth it, but if they aren't, it would only hurt her. Since she's only doing Common Application schools, and only three of those have application fees, adding an extra $9.50 here and there didn't seem so bad.

But we are aware that if her SAT IIs are really bad, she has probably hurt herself by sending them to those four schools unseen. The reason we took the risk was that two of the schools are kind of reachy for her -- without good SAT IIs, she probably doesn't have much chance. So sending poor SAT IIs isn't really going to hurt her - it just wouldn't be helping.

thank you.. I actually contacted the one school I was worried about and they basically told me the same thing. They don't require it bu thtey recommend it and they like to look at them, but they most likely won't hurt me, since they use them mainly for placement. And after talking to a guidance counselor as well... we've all agreed that although it's an amazing school, it is instate, which is an advantage at this particular school and my AP scores, GPA, and SATs, will make the SAT II's overshadowed
