Sending your deposit

Is there any benefit in sending in your deposit early? I am still waiting to hear from a few more schools, but I won't hear til April for most of them and chances are I'll end up at Michigan. Does it hurt me in any way to wait until I hear from all the schools? Like would I get stuff about orientation and that kind of thing later than if I sent it in now?
Thanks

^ The earlier you send in your deposit, the more competitive you are with others for scholarship money, because you have committed to UM. At the same time, you get to have your umich email already, which is pretty cool.

Where did you read that?

^^ That’s incorrect, merit scholarships are based on the app, not the acceptance.

^^ Balthezar is right.
My GC called the LSA office yesterday and asked about merit award notification. About 8 people in my class (OOS) are waiting.
It’s not dependent on accepting enrollment. Awards go out any time between later this month and April. Why? They give early awards to someone who is a perfect fit for the named scholarship and then wait for the enrollment #'s in April to give the rest.

So, is there any benefit in sending the deposit in now as opposed to April?

No benefit at all. As long as you send it in before April 1st, you’re fine.

No benefit at all. As long as you send it in before April 1st(or is it May 1st?), you’re fine.

It’s May 1st. Remember that most of the Ivies don’t release until April 1st. And many U of M admits won’t hear until April either, especially those deferred.
You have lots of time. You don’t need to lock yourself in at all. Students are ENTITLED to compare all final packages, including financial aid, not just merit, before making such a significant decision. Keep your options open.

At an information session yesterday, the asst admissions director said that sending in a deposit allowed you to receive housing sign-up information and could help get more choices that way.

Housing is by lottery. You aren’t allowed to send in your housing request until they post it, which isn’t usually until well after the deadline anyway. We didn’t see any advantage at all.

You get a michigan email and can join the network on facebook. That’s what I found most exciting about it. Haha, but not a really legit reason if you’re waiting for someplace else.
